Is AntiMalware related to MSE ??
Because my MSE service is just showing 316K

Gee what is 316K anyways? :D Let's see that adds to 1024Kbytes subtract 684Kbytes = less then 1/3 of a mb! out of what? 2gb

I have 1 GB of RAM

I had 2 GB got a BSOD finally remove a old RAM i have DDR RAM which is more costly than DDR 2 so i might upgrade my whole computer so left it alone

Right, I don't understand that either. Why would anybody worry about RAM. At first it is cheap to add more and then the system hardly ever uses all the RAM anyhow (at least if you have enough RAM to fit the system). Most of my RAM is used for caching - and I have only 3GBs. Only 28% is currently being used to perform the requested tasks.

Norton 360 has a memory consumption abt 12-15 MB.

And it has the more functions than MSE but it's not FREE.

For this month i came back to NOD32 SS and i was shocked at the site of 45-60 MB of used Ram.

The system was more agile with the Norton 360...

You guys looking only to the User interface resource consumption.

With the anti-virus being one of the most important component of your system, and ram being so cheap, why is this even an issue??? Its like being in the ring with one hand tied behind your back...

It's not only about RAM but also CPU cycles usage.
And for example for gaming even slightest change REALLY important.
You will understand me, if you tried gaming on the laptop.
And upgrading laptops isn't so easy.

Killobytes? If something was chewing up gigabytes that would be a concern far more then a few kbs and a few there.

The largest process running here is seen in the image being the svchost.exe taking more then any av processes.

On the new build you will likely see a good 4gb or more depending on which flavor of 7 you plan to run there(32bit or 64bit) and simply won't be worried about a few killobytes! :D

And if you below what you are covering up with the information prompt you will also see other instances of the svchost.exe running as well. That's what you have to take into consideration there since several instances will be running at the same time with each seeing a different amount of ram being used depending on what you have running at the time.

When looking at the image here you can how that looks.

Svchost.exe is a wrapper for dll's which cannot run by themselves.

Right, .dlls have to be run either by a svchost.exe or by a rundll32.exe

And you will see several instances at times depending on how much is loaded in the background. what was interesting there was those weren't from MSE, AVG, or another other AV or antimalware program but from having two IE windows open there.

Most av programs will take about 45-60mb of memory once you add all the processes up. The MSE was quite a bit less while still comiing in at some 75,000K while running a scan.

Hello,

I just wanted to say trusting something like MSE is not smart. Microsoft does not keep up with viruses like Norton, AVG, etc... Please if your going to give advice know what your talking about.

Would you like professional years or total amount of years working on computer systems? When someone is posting asking for which has the smallest footprint while on a budget it makes me cringe as people talk about how they only use MSE. For the technical user this would be an ok approach for proactive scans, but most users aren't in this category and with as many computers that have come into our shop because they were told that MSE would suffice I had speak up. I could go on and on about how I technically don't have a proactive antivirus and yet have never had anything past some spyware on each scan but what good would that do for those who aren't as equipped... I will say that if your looking for something with a relatively small foot print and has scored high on detection rates than I would most definitively suggest Avira free or paid version.

Thank you,

CpuGuru
