Avast -- EXCELLENT support for problem

Hi everyone
I've often "Nagged" about the inadequancies of AV software

I made a post about inconsistencies between the same version running on VISTA amd W7 where the VISTA version reports a disk as 100% clean whereas the W7 version finds a (KNOWN) trojan on the same disk.

(That post is also in this section of the Forum)

They at least seemed to be very interested in this and will get back to me asap.

(And this is for the FREE version).

At least AVAST seem to understand the meaning of the word "Support" without having to go round and round through endless telephone menus and the absolute horror of those "Indian" call centres.

I'll be interested in what they come up with.

encouraging to hear jimbo. I have been supporting/installing avast myself as of lately. With reading/hearing this make me want to keep on having it installed. I havent had any crashes/hangs. From what i can tell compared to other AV, its doing its job pretty well when i throw things at it.

I've been using Avast for several years now. I get valuable help at the forums 99% of the time. Sometimes I even suggest new features or how to improve current ones.

I would like to try Avast (free edition) on my Windows 7 64bit. Is Avast OK to 64 bit?
I have tried Kasperskys IS 8 Beta for Windows 7, but that slowed my PC down quite a bit, and made som games unuseable.

The main thing I want from Avast right now is to be able to do a boot-time scan on Win7 x64.

I know I seem to keep listing products that I help Beta test - but the fact of the matter is that I don't usually use products that have major problems with them - and I consider support issues o be at the top of the list when it comes to major problems.

MBAM now fully supports 64bit OSs - the free version will scan on demand, the only thing that was previously missing in terms of 64bit support was real time protection (that is only available in paid versions). happily, starting with version 1.36, it fully supports 64bit OSs now.

Unless I've mis understood something isn't this a "Malware" detection program rather than full Anti Virus etc protection.

Sorry if I've mis-understood something but if it IS a full blown Anti-Virus program then what's the difference between "Malware" and Anti-Virus software.

I thought my English was pretty good but I'm confused over this one.

Hi Jimbo,

Malwarebytes is an anti-malware application rather than a full blown antivirus, as you say, I think John was comparing the quality of their support to Avast rather than the actual application

The major advantage I find with Avast is that the Free version is the same as the professional version except for certain additional functions that are better suited to a commercial managed environment - Scheduling of scans and reporting etc.

As for X64 compatibility of the "Free" version 4.8. I am running here on RC without any issues at all. The only issue I've ever had with Avast in the years I've used it is the volume of the Update message

I am also waiting to see what they will say about it. While we are at it, can you also ask them when are we going to be able to schedule boot runs for x64bit?
