I had Avast! version 5. I update to 6. My action action center flag has an red x now saying to find a antivirus even when I upgrade Avast! 6. I opened control panel and click on avast! change and then click repair. Then I reboot and still no luck. Why does it still have that red x flag?

I had the same problem for months.
Someone posted this link for a Hotfix from MS.
It now shows on Action Center but not in the health report.
Go here to read up on it.
The system health report does not detect installed antivirus applications in Windows 7

Go here to request Hotfix. Doesn't take long to receive email response.
Help and Support

MS emails you a direct link to the Hotfix with a password. Download, insert password and install.
Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7.
  • You install an antivirus application on the computer.
  • You generate a system health report for the computer.
In this scenario, the system health report reports that no antivirus application is installed on the computer. Therefore, you cannot use the system health report in a domain environment to determine which computers do not have an antivirus application installed.

Additionally, the following message is included in the report:

Symptom: The Security Center has not recorded an anti-virus product.
Cause: The Security Center is unable to identify an active anti-virus application. Either there is no anti-virus product installed or it is not recognized.
Resolution: 1. Verify that an anti-virus product is installed. 2. If an anti-virus product is installed and functioning configure Security Center to stop monitoring anti-virus status.
