Avatar The Movie -- Biggest disappointment ever

The last time I saw a 3D movie was about 50 years ago. You had to wear the glasses with one green lens and one red lens. Did Avatar require glasses?

If you want to watch it on 3d. it requires glasses.

I personally found the movie ranking in my top five within the first half hour, and by the end of the movie, it's superiority was undoubted by myself.

this no-brainer ( pure visual) seems to do well. However, I would never pay cinema to watch a Cameron production.

No it wasn't the best movie I ever saw but overall I liked it so I've recommended it to friends.

Imax 3D and Dolby 3D are better than Real D 3D but the Real D 3D is cheaper to set up and the glasses are 80p instead of £25. I will be finding an Imax to re-watch this asap. All these versions of 3D are better than the old red green glasses! Look out for Ultra HD 3D LED TV's this year! (PS3 is capable of generating 3D games as well!)

Although I disagree with Jimbo45, I found the experience to be terrific. Your comments about Stargate Universe are right on. Being a huge fan of SG-1 and SG-Atlantis, SU was a complete waste of time.

I think that people overlook the screenplay in favor of the effects. If it wasn't for that the movie would be on DVD already. With that being said the cinematic experience is breathtaking. No Oscars for acting though.

The imagery is AWSOME but the story is CRAP! :shock: Its sad that all that effort was focused on the technology and the visual effects that they think that people will overlook the shallow story... kindda feels like they're treating the viewers as idiots - INSULTING :huh:

I really liked that they didn't overdo the 3D. They didn't go out of their way to make parts 3D. They still stuck to the basics of the movie.

I thought it was great.

Newie in the forum and just looking about and saw the topic "....Biggest disappointment ever .." and had to comment... I found the Avatar experience to be one of the best, if not the best movie experience ever.

I have to agree that overall, it was a very good movie.

I saw it again with a friend, and we spent out time analyzing the movie. We both agreed that the way they used Focusing (like with a typical movie) was disappointing, as the 3D could be used to fill in the rest of that area. We also agreed that the storyline was alright, but there were holes in it big enough to drive a truck through (or one of those hammerhead things). For instance, what exactly was the atmosphere? They just needed masks with air purifiers, not tanks. So it obviously had oxygen. Same goes for the fire. It would not be like that considering the different elements in the air, either burn more, less, different colours, etc.
Also, the 3D could have been used to fill in the foreground more, as my friend mentioned. Instead, they kept it confined within the screen, though they did have fairly good depth.

So besides the plot seriously lacking, and the 3D and filming needing to be used more.... It was still a good movie. The plot was not original, but its hard to be truly original these days.

The direction of SGU makes a welcome change to the other formats. It's just different. I personally like the new 'darker tone' to it. Although I'm still not happy they scrapped Atlantis...

The storyline was a bit vanilla, the "Training" phase was an area requiring a large suspension of disbelief, beyond that, the cinematics were excellent.
