The direction of SGU makes a welcome change to the other formats. It's just different. I personally like the new 'darker tone' to it. Although I'm still not happy they scrapped Atlantis...

Hi all
Was I alone in finding this movie almost the biggest load of drivel I've seen for YEARS.

I'm sure like a lot of people I was really waiting for this as the reviews were outstanding.

About half way through my colleague had to nudge me in the Cinema as I had fallen asleep and was snoring --- this was way BEFORE any visit to a drinking establishment.

I like SF but have been really disappointed by the latest offerings - Stargate Universe and now this piece of overhyped nonsense.

Save your money for something else.

I won't be seeing it all to start with here. But so far it is actually doing a tremendous at earning revenues! Already since the first day it was out it has grossed some $1 Billion dollars! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$....... for a movie you didn't like!

There's quite a few other movies you would likely fall asleep at as well that haven't made out that well.

I'm still waiting to grab an old Bruce Lee movie on dvd to finish a collection of those since I ran into a 6 pack of those movies in one disk set. As for the latest ones coming out Mel Gibson is in one this month. There was another new one that "did look" far more interesting as well then what looked an animated movie with Avatar.

We need to remember that a film review by a critic is just what the critic himself or herself thinks of the film. S/he might enjoy it, in which case it gains a favourable rating. On the other hand, s/he might completely detest it in which case it will gain an absolutely diabolical rating.

At the end of the day, it is what you think of the film that is important.

It really comes down to personal preferences to start with. Obviously by the reports showing it has been a tremendous box office draw shows people are raving about it. It's not simply from the usual ads. One person who likes it tells another and another tells another and..... on and on it goes!

Wont be seeing this. I heard its excellent visually, but the story line doesnt interest me much, the characters dont interest me, and I hate Cameron and his views. Just because something is breathtaking visually, shouldnt make it a great movie. And Im still surprised that tall blue, almost elf looking creatures are all of a sudden popular and people are flocking to see them.

If you look at many of the new movies that have come out in the last few years you can easily take in the special effects due to advances in computer generated imagery. For those that saw the latest Star Trek movie you can see improvements in special effects there too.

The more important things despite a box office draw of course are 1) "Story Line"! no plot no interest fall asleepy time! 2) casting 3)how you feel after sitting through some average 96-140 minutes of film as far as the taste left in your mouth!

A good story line, excellent casting and something that hits some emotion will leave you with a good memory! Speaking of Star Trek the original tv series sadly lacked the technology for special effects there back in the 1960s BUT became a legend with an enduring fanship for decade to follow! STORY LINE! CASTING! and those "Memorable moments"! created by Gene Roddenberry still endure to this day in the latest sequel.

Star Trek, and then in the 70s Star Wars! caught everyone's attention and held your interest! Perhaps the name of the movie Avatar is the selling point for that one since who doesn't know what an avatar is if they are on a forum like this? Unfortunately it sounds like the movie fails to live upto the title!

The reason avatar hit that billion mark quite easily can be attributed to the price of the tickets. The actual benchmark that is worth seeing is how many tickets were sold more so than money it made.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion's thats what is so great about life. But me. I hated it. One of the worst movies ever made. I was screaming to leave and stay awake for that matter. I give it a 3 on the low side and 4 on the action scene side, out of a 10. I give blind side a better rating then avatar. The 3d i will say was great but after about 20 minutes of seeing good detail the crappy story took over and was to drawn out.
But again thats my opinion and others loved it and thats great

But i will say that this is one of those movies who have a few say "it was ok or fair or good" Either people loved it or really hated it.

Hey guys...About this Avatar thing...its like same old, same old...except the effects and all that...the story sucks,nothing new,at all. If I wanted to watch a documentary,I would watch some BBC documentary about past or future life forms around,they have nice effects to More action baby,more action is required
And yes, about SG, Atlantis rocks.

P.S. I wish people that live in Amazon can have same abilities like that Avatar tribe:sarc:

I was saying, at the begining there is a dude that is disapointed from something,suddenly having chance to do something with his life, playing this double agent thing, getting in love with the enemy character, having a love scene somewhere in the middle of the movie...at the end good guys r victorius...and all that spiced with a lot of effects...there you go, you have a wining sheme combination.(that's my opinion)

Yea im a big scifi fan. SG-1 atlantis Star treks "all of them expect i wasn't to fond of DS9" BSG i dunno you name it i watched it. But i just hated the story of avatar true it looked great but after 20 minutes of "wow this looks great" it starts getting boring from the story and i was beggin the wife to leave ..

Here's my litterary talent at work -- how about this for a plot

1) Space ship lands on a planet a few light years away.

2) Evidence that it at one time had a civilisation about equivalent to 20th century Earth. Evidence was found deep under within the planet's surface

3) Civilisation was ascertained to have died out because of massive Solar flare of the Planets Sun.

4) On returning to Laboratory back on Earth dates are checked.

5) Religious astronomer comes to conclusion that the Star must have had the flares at about the time of "Star of Bethlehem" was alleged to have appeared on Earth.

6) End of story with a Prayer -- Astronomer believes in God but says surely out of all the other possible stars you could have used why did you choose the one with a Civilisation that was just beginning with its own exploration of Space.


Enjoy -- and that's what you can do while typing and having a glass of strong Malt Scotch whisky in your hand.
