Don't confuse that with the other AVG link for the Internet Security 9 found above the av program on the main page.
UPDATE:
Upon going to see if the giveaway was up the buy option wants you to fill up everything plus an additional S&H charge likely for the cd itself. The alarm bells rang however when clicking on the "try now" option as seen in the image here where the VIPRE Premium firewall kicked in. Something is wrong somewhere! since the firewall has been 100% accurate every time it has blocked any site!

Hi all --
I'm not sure I'd bother with this --after all for NON Corporate use I think PAID FOR AV software will go the way of the Dodo.
MSE (and its corporate big brother Forefront Client Security) are going from strength to strengh and who knows what will happen in a years time.
MSE does extremely well against pretty well anything out there at the moment --nothing is 100% fail safe but MSE is probably the best bang for buck (i.e ZERO) out there at the moment and uses minimal resources too.
The other advantage is that MS updates the virus definitions DB pretty frequently and is probably able to afford resorces to fix any new trojan / virus long before other companies since it holds all the Windows SOURCES.
Other companies either have to reverse engineer Windows or rely on published interfaces where they can insert their code. Neither of these are going to be able to compete with MS in the long term.
Cheers
jimbo

There's something you won't find the MSE. Keeping bugs off in the first place! It may find them but won't block them from getting on.
An active firewall as well as malicious code detection included in IE protection will be what keeps things off as well as steering you away from bad sites. At least the more recent AVG builds included the IE toolbar option that filters sites and alerts to bad ones while separate IE protections are still going to be a plus rather then relying solely on any toolbar.
The antiphising filters in IE 7 now 8 were a start for MS in adding this type of protection while still very limited where the toolbar option seen with AVG even the free version picked up the slack there to an extent.

Hi there
that's not correct --MSE and now in beta V2 is EXACTLY DOING THIS IN REALTIME -- in any case that's the whole point of AV software.
I've never seen much sense in doing a SCAN AFTER the event of getting infected other than it's time to restore from a non infected image -after all if you don't know how LONG a Virus has been on your machine the chances are you wont know what its done either --and how can you trust an Infected OS to actually heal itself properly whatever the AV software says its done.
To me I'm not too bothered about Computer Scanning for Viruses but a REAL time check that WORKS is the only thing I'm interested in and the package has to be SMALL so as not to cause performance problems on the host OS.
Cheers

First you have to sign up for an account note since the page now shows "store members only". As far as the program I never ran into any problems with it while it simply became outdated even with the latest builds. But any software can run into problems at times.

Different hardware, different setups, different results. I've personally never had a problem with AVG up until the time I switched to MSE fully. Nor do I know anyone who has had issues with it.

The same here. In fact I still know some who refuse to switch to any other av program.
But I also found that neither the MSE or AVG programs offered what I was looking for at the same time. When it came time for a new build another new program had to be selected.
As far as which program has the top rating for causing problems that was discussed on an entirely different thread a few weeks back.
