Hey guys. I am a AVG 9.0 user. I use AVG for live protection but for system scanning I use Malwarebytes. Is AVG decent enough to give live protection? If not, what would you recommend for live, free protection?

Thank you,
Stephen Hobson

Yeah. I think that was happened on November or December 2009?.

They post public apology.

But they make sure now that it will never happened again.

AVG has also issues.. Detecting FP... Deleting system files. Forgot the year that happens.

My point is all AV's or Internet Security is created by human being.

No one is perfect.

Avira is good also. But im loyal in Avast.:D

Avast is Version 5 now.

Hi Steven & welcome,
You will get a variety of answers to your questions.
Re AVG Live Protection?? Do you mean Web Protection?
Regardless AVG 9 is a good program, I suggest you continue with it.

Providing you surf safely, use a Firewall, Anti virus program, Antimalware program, update & scan regularly you should be ok.

You may care to consider SuperAntiSpyware as an alternative to Malewarebytes.
[The paid version only provides Real -Time Protection.]

Avast or Malwarebytes along side of MSE until you feel comfortable with MSE like myself... either or work great with MSE but a lot of folks here already feel good with just MSE. I also agree with adding a firewall to protect out going data... No need to change the firewall but just add Windows 7 Firewall Control... GL :D

I guess it was in November 2009. Avast deleted a few of my setups (WordWeb, ...) which were actually clean and i had to download them again. Avast said it found viruses on the new files too, so i moved over to Avira.
Anyway, Avast is very good as long as it doesn't detect false positives. Might be a bit talkative 'Updates have been downloaded., ...' but my kids loved it :)
