Hello
I have recently done a clean install of Win 8 and the compatibility advisor said one of the items not compatible was Avisynth. How do I retrieve it now that I am in Win 8 from Win 7?
Thank you
Peter

Hello Peter,

If you did a clean install of Windows 8, then that would have deleted Windows 7 before you installed Windows 8. There would be nothing left from Windows 7 to retrieve. :(

I found this below for Avisynth that may help, but there doesn't appear to be a Windows 8 compatible version available for it. You might see if using compatibility mode on it may help it run ok in Windows 8.

I wish they would specify whether or not it is necessary or required but I did not find that to be true with Win 8.

I would just install it along with AvsPMod. Write a couple line script like
DirectShowSource("somemovie.ext")
BilinearResize(720,480)

or whatever just to use an AviSynth filter.

Drag the preview slider and see if it shows the video.

Hello
I am replying as a courtesy as I am only an average user and this is hard for me to understand. I do appreciate the reply however.

AvsPMod is a modification of AvsP. AvsP has been around for years. It's an editor specialized to work with AviSynth scripts. The script typically has the extension .avs from where the editor gets the name.

If you load a movie file, such as movie.mkv as example, with this line
DirectShowSource("Movie.mkv")

then move the slider to the right, a preview window will open. This allows you to see the effect of cropping, adding subtitles, resizing etc..

If you add an AviSynth Filter line to the script, such as
BilinearResize(720,480)

this has the effect of resizing the video resolution to 720 by 480. Since it depends on AviSynth, if you get the preview of the video, it indicates that the AviSynth you installed is working. Otherwise you will likely just get a black rectangle in the preview window or an outright error message when you try it.

Edit: Also you can ask questions about AviSynth Usage on this sub-forum:

I played some videos successfully. I wonder if that means the media pack has what is needed for viewing.
I will refer to the Avisynth forum to see if it is necessary to use with Win 8.
Thank you
Peter
I tried to enter the forum but registration was strange and eluded me.

I apologize for the cross posting; it is not a habit of mine and I realize it is impolite and time consuming for you.
Thank you for the reminder.
