I have an Acer Iconia W500 tablet running W7 Pro x64. I was uninstalling a program in Programs when I noticed these drivers from ASIX Electronic Co. installed. Could someone tell me if they are needed drivers for Windows to operate properly, or, what are they for. I've never seen these drivers on my office desktops and I use the desktops and the tablet for essentially the same thing. Thanks7

I use a plugable.com usb2-e100 usb to ethernet adapter, and that has an asix ax88772 chip so drivers are needed for it which i download from plugable.com which is who makes the usb2-e100 adapter i use.
but if you web search on ax88772 you can find a lot of info, and the source is ASIX Electronics | Embedded Network/Bridge Solution Provider
Does not surprise me that your tablet (or laptop or any other kind of similar hardware ) might have an AX88772 chip in it, in which case if you delete the driver out of windows then expect that particular piece of hardware on your tablet to no longer function.
I am only familiar with the my usb-ethernet adapter but i think asix 88772, 88772a, 88772b and so on is mostly all about networking/wifi/ethernet controller but don't quote me on that, if i had to guess Acer built your tablet using an ASIX chip in it somewhere. But asix 88772 is legit it's not malware or extra junk installed on retail tablets/laptops/etc. if you delete your asix driver i would bet $1 that you would lose some aspect of network/wifi functionality on your tablet which you may or may not be using. I do know that the 88772 driver is not native or inherent in windows7 so you would see an "installed driver" for it.

Thanks ron7000, it must be for the WiFi. When I loaded the 64 bit W7 on the tablet the Acer 32 bit drivers would not work. So I had to find a 64 bit drivers for the WiFi. Thanks again.
