Back to MSE

After seeing the following review on YouTube, I decided to go back to MSE for now. Running it, ThreatFire and Windows Firewall. The firewall issue in ESS and Windows 7 and sharing folders is annoying me, so I figured why not try MSE again, even though I have a license for ESS for a couple more years.

I keep jumping back and forth between MSE, ESS and Nod32. Can't seem to decide. I've tried others as well, but Nod32 and MSE seem to be the lightest on resources for me and work well in my setup.

I was pretty amazed by that review though. Matt has done some interesting reviews, but it's not often he throws 10 links at a product and it gets them like it did in this video. I would have liked to see the exact same 10 thrown at Nod32 though just for kicks.

Obviously those links are old now from the video and odds are they won't be active anymore, plus I don't have a test machine like he does to see what Nod32 might do.

The one constant these days on my system though is ThreatFire 64-bit beta. It performs very well and has really protected me from some test sites I've gone to. I would strongly suggest everyone try ThreatFire - it's free so how can you go wrong and you don't have to worry about it conflicting with your current anti virus.

yeah, it would have been good to see NOD32 handle those links. I'm very happy with it. It's the first thing I install after the os. It's never failed me and most times I don't even know it's running. The computers at my work were running AVG when I started there. I got rid of it and threw NOD on and it found a lot of infected files that AVG had missed

I too like MSE but i wish Microsoft make another version that intergrates an Internet Security Suit too. But this one is nice.

I m having the same issue here. I cant seem to decide and i keep switching between NOD32, ESS and MSE. I m now trying Sunbelt Vipre.

That's v3.0 of ESET though. Old version of course. Look around and you can see his review of ESS 4.0 which fares much much better on adware and malware.

All I have on my system is ESET Smart security 4, no malwarebytes, no superantispyware, no threatfire exc.
Never had a problem.

Seems as if there is some confusion here, as I thought it was referring to MB's as well of RAM.

well MSE is just abusing the .net garbage collector ( i think ) try looking at resource when doing a full scan... it reaches like 100mb+

I never reached 100mb with eset ....

my max was 70-90mb?

and mse is still beta... who knows how much bloat will be added in the future =D!!! MOAR RAM!!!

I dont know why you have such a memory drain, but doing a full scan, I'm only using 52Mb ... and thats 22Mb less than firefox ... Im very satisfied with MSE ...

ESET is pretty much the lightest in the market when scanning, when idle Norton wins though. Keep in mind ESET has MUCH better detection and better heuristics than Norton!

43MB here with ESET during a full scan and the highest drain on the CPU - 25%. MSE in yours is showing 37%.

Just sayin'...

you will that he is claiming a very unusual amount of resources are being used (he claims it practically crippled his pc)
I said in that thread that people are funny when it comes to their chosen av software. They will defend it to the end as if they developed it. I use NOD32 because it's light yet powerful. I don't need/want anything else. it has been working for me for over 8 years and have NEVER been infected
