Well, I guess this is it.
I won't use Windows 7 until it is released as a Final.
I've tried all the thinkable ways of trying to get my Lineage 2 working on Build 7077.
No succes, So, For all the compatibility I want without losing speed, I'm heading back to Windows XP.
I'll still surf around the forums probably.
Anyone else has major campatibility problems on 7077?

well, thats what dual boot is for ;) Same goes for ppl running punkbuster games (for now atleast). Blame the lineage developers, not 7. Its not 7 duty to make sure IT is comp with everything else, thats the developers job. But to just run an OS for ONE particular game? I can somewhat understand, but if this is your case just for ONE game not running the OS, well... dont know what to say to ya. I had same feelings with Vista, but there was more than just ONE problem with apps or games. Why not dual boot or run a virtual machine? Its not as if while you are playing that game on XP it hinders you from doing other things.... a 30 sec reboot is the only thing keeping you from running 7?

You may want to scour their support forums as well... maybe send some feedback to the developers on when they plan on supporting the OS

It would be kinda like me saying ... well since XP wont run rollercoaster tycoon 1, i guess i will have to switch back to win98 for my primary OS.

As far as I know, RCT1 DOES run on XP :O
And well, I only have 160GBs of Hard drive space, so I gotta watch it.
No dual-boots for me. :)
And well, I don't play much else than Lineage 2, except for Shin Megami Tensei.

I actually feel bad for Microsoft. I wish people weren't suck jack-asses when it came to compatibitility. I bet the OS could have huge leeps in power if they could ignore compatibility :) Seriously tho, think if they had to waste all of their time worrying about making xp compatible with stuff from windows 3.1. That's pretty much the same time frame difference from windows xp initial release and windows 7.

Windows 3.1 - Mar 1992
Windows XP - Oct 2001

The problem with not seeing the speaker setting in the Creative audio console here has been the major annoyance in the 7000 build while the tv tuner works well. The reverse has been seen in the 7077 with everything working for Creative while the repeat efforts to see something besides a greyed out picture in there is still underway.

The surprise however was no need for a driver cd for the nic card added in there. Meanwhile XP and Vista are still on here for the old reliable element!

It amazes me that after all this time XP is still going strong. There is a big fan base for it. My friend installed 7, had it on for a day then reinstalled XP, cos he 'knew it'
Fair enough but if you think about it, for gaming anyway benchmarks ive seen 7 keeps up well with XP, in some tests actually better. Shame developers dont go as quick to update but thats the way it is. Me personally i dont think i could go back to XP. 7 does what i want and have had no probs. Unfortunate for those who have, but hopefully that will all get sorted out.

Are you serious. Why should gaming be exclusive to xp? Xp is dying a long drawn out death, hope I don't suffer like that. As for making it "bare bone" you can do that with any os anyway. Windows 7 produces better results in some instances with regards to bench results. And as johngalt says gaming in dx 10 is far more pleasurable than in dx 9 and so it is when you switch your game off and have lots of eye candy, that's besides the functionality. Totally disagree with you there ollie and think xp should be laid to rest once and for all!

Quite a good point. XP has had this myth built up around it thats it the 'best' gaming OS you can get, which is quite the opposite, especially seeing the results on 7 with a good gfx card

Wasn't having a go mate but for ollie to say xp should be for gaming well........ Like damoh says if your gfx card is good enough nothing can touch win 7. All my games run flawlessly on win 7 from need for speed underground right through to crysis and gta iv. Bring it on!

Agreed, but then its not guaranteed to be supported even then? I remember waiting months for a printer driver and months for some other bits, all game releated. The final product does not guarantee happiness. But as far as you going back to XP, i can completly agree. I had to with vista cos i could not use my printer for ages, which was something i need

A little of subject perhaps, but along the same game theme. In my opinion PC's were never meant to be gaming stations. Times change however. 7 will promise to be as good as what were are seeing, and not before time seeing as the fiasco that was Vista. But, whilst i can play all the latest games on my pc, i prefer my 360 lol so that negates any argument for XP over 7 lol

Perhaps you're forgetting that they just released XP SP3 last year- obviously XP was 'incomplete as of last year - only 7 years after it was released.

No OS is 'complete', when you think about it - there is always new hardware, new software, and other factors to consider, plus vulnerabilities that are found on a weekly basis....

An OS is only "Complete" when you uninstall it for the very last time...other than that they will ALWAYS be a work in progress, they're just too large and complex to every be fully completed.
I remember one of our members said they expect a stable OS to be "bug free"...never happen, never has happened and never will happen...ever! All we can realistically expect from any OS is that the developers work to keep it current with advancing technology with SP's and that 3rd party developers keep up with current drivers that work.
Anything more than that is a Pipe Dram.

Could not go back to XP not after 7 . The whole feel of 7 is modern and conveniant . Windows XP feels dated . Guess I love my gadgets . Thats just on the look and feel of the system without going beyound the obvious advantages of 7 the great network surport the way you can run around the system witha few mouse strokes . It all just falls into place :)

Was that the actress or the bishop ?

When you think about it it, an 8 year old OS is bound to be quicker than the current one because modern hardware has overtaken what XP was designed for. By the same token, people using XP might be missing out on newer technology and security measures.

Give me windows 7 any day.
