I am getting an error message 0x80070424 saying the specified service does not exist when I try to change my back up settings.

I tried to do a couple of different dated system restores as this was a suggested solution but get error 0x80071a90 system restore did not complete because it could not replace C:Windows.

I di the scannow cmd thing but that didn't throw anything up.

Any suggestions? Help!

Go to Social.Technet.Microsoft for a possible solution. I provided this thread because it has some suggestions if THE fix does not work as well as detailed instructions on how to effect same.

Many thanks! Worked my way throught the thread - had to use the import option on the registry and then it worked fine. Suspect System Mechanic was the problem but I see they do now exclude the key so hopefully won't happen again!
