Back up failure 0x81000019

Dell notebook, windows 7, trying to backup with seagate 1T external. Error message "a shadow copy could not be created please check VSS and SPP aplication event log for more information detail the specific object was not found error code: ox81oooo19." Tried looking and deleting languages not used. Checked Volume shadow copy service and is in automatic. Backup did work in the past....even 6/13/2012 but has not since a MS download???? can't make an image copy error 0x8078006B 0x80042308 or a start up repair disc 0x80004005

Welcome to Seven Forums Independent. 1st thing, check the size and free space of the 100mb System Reserved partition in Disk Management. If there is not 40 MB of free space, this can happen.

Start> Right click Computer and select Manage> Under Storage, click on Disk Management

Ahhh, there is your problem, not enough space in the SR partition. I will ask for more help as it is 5am, and I must zzz. Hang in there. A Guy

Hello, what was it you downloaded ? some updates have been known to cause similar problems. Just something I noticed, the 39Mb partition has 100 % free which doesn't fit with the idea of system recovery.

I read also, "This error code follows an error statement suggesting that Windows computer has encountered a problem that keeps it from checking the license of the computer"
That being the case a reinstall is the only option.

The 39mb OEM partition - likely showing empty because files are hidden - normally contains Dell Diagnostics, not the System boot files which are shown to be on the Recovery partition to help it run when booted.

If you have no other problems with your System may I suggest you use free Macrium to Image your system instead of Win7 backup imaging as it's a preferred app by many here anyway. Also you can use Acronis' premium cloning/imaging app which comes free if you have a WD or Seagate HD.

Be sure to make your Factory Recovery Disks in case the Recovery partition is damaged and won't run if needed as the preferred first method to Recover to factory condition: Dell Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

I would also run Dell Diagnostics to make sure it will run from boot: Information - How to Run the Dell Diagnostics Utility & Error Code List | PC Help Forum

If you want to start fresh without the Dell bloatware you can also Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with a special note included for Dell owners.

Ahhh, that's why you don't help at 5am I didn't even see it was listed as OEM partition. It just fit what I was thinking. Thanks guys for giving good info. A Guy
