[Solved] Backing up to website server

Hey guys,

Im not sure if this is the right place to ask about this so please let me know if its not.

Basically, I would like to be able to save a backup file, 'backup.zip' onto my web server. I can already upload and download it via an ftp which is fine, but I want to be able to create a link that I could email to another machine, just click and it would start the download for example:

www.mywebsite.co.uk/downloads/backup.zip

clicking the above link would start a download of backup.zip

I would prefer to upload the files via ftp software such as filezilla but download using the method above. Simply linking as I have done above doesnt seem to work...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Max

First question is, how big is the backup zip file? There are a lot of reasons why I wouldn't do it that way, IMO - bandwidth/cost on the server and home side, reliability of an HTTP transfer when you download, etc. You'd be much better off going with a cloud type backup like Carbonite, etc. Even if you only use it to store the zip file

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I think I will just do it your way!

Thanks for the help
