First Post!

I have a new Dell XPS 13 (Windows 7 64-bit) and am pleased with it thus far. I have successfully created a system image on DVDs (Using Windows utility).

Twice I have tried the Windows Backup utility to back up all user files (what Windows selects) to DVDs and it does not complete! The utility gets to 66% or 67% running for approx 4-6 hours and does not prompt to insert another DVD (the 2nd). The total size of data to backup is approx 11GB. The second time I disabled the antivirus software (MSE) hoping that was causing the problem.

Any suggestions or solutions?

I'd like to backup to DVDs as I have plenty and do not have an external HD available.

Hi and welcome MCG

First I have to tell you backups to dvd is a bad idea. If they get scratched, or whatever the data is lost and you wont know until it is too late.

If you insist in using them, you are going to need a third party app (like norton ghost or acronis (my preference)) to handle the disk spanning.

Hope this helps

I tried the same thing as you and experienced the same problem. I did research on this forum and found that it was a frequent problem. Further reseach indicated, that regardless of the information provided by MS, saving to a disc is not really a viable alternative, bottom line it does not work.
