Backup Notification

I'm running Windows backup on a 32-bit Home Premium system. The backup runs at the appointed time but there is no indication when it finishes or any problems. I have not be able to find a log that details the backup. Is there a log I can check or a way I can be notified when the backup starts and ends?

Someone asked a similar question about a log the other day and I think the conclusion is that there is none. You likely have to manually make notes on whatever you will need.
