Backup problem

Interesting. B and C are Fat32 for Win95. D is not officially assigned and is not recognized as a valid type by Win 7.

What software can safely be used to backup/restore/move such partitions I do not know. I do not know if Partition Wizard would correctly handle a Type D partition.

Well I don't know how to merge the unused partition with the initial disk; that's the entire goal of these 5 pages.

One of those will get you to where you want. you can also do incremental backups in which only new/changed files are added.

You need to move the contents of the 'D' partition, your Wii games.

What did you use to put the files there?

D/L Partition Wizard and see if it will identify your 'D' partition and possibly move it.
I have not used it to move this type of files, you need to have a backup of this partition before you begin or risk loosing it.

Use the Bootable Flash Drive or CD, read the information on this tutorial: Use the Bootable Partition Wizard CD to Make Changes to the Windows Partition Structure

Use Macrium Reflect, as mentioned previously, for your backups, it will give you smaller backup files.

You are going to need more HDDs to be able to do what you want, your backup files are too big.

The best way to proceed is to re-structure your partitions.
Keep your OS in a 60GB partition, move all data to the remaining 405GB partition.
Since all your HDDs are too full you will need a staging Hdd to do this.
With this setup you can keep separate backups of OS and Data, not duplicating backups of your data over and over.

Alright I can't merge the partition in any of the methods I've tried, but Macrium has completed a backup for me, which is all I wanted anyway. Is there any tips/trick or anything like that to Macrium? And do I need to install Macrium on each computer I want to install the image on? Thanks!

The Macrium image cannot be restored unless you first make and then use the Macrium Linux recovery CD. You make the disk using Macrium itself. After the disk is burned, you should boot your PC with it to confirm that it works and that you can see all of your partitions and the image file.

Without this disk, Macrium is useless.

Both.

It contains a bootable version of Linux. You don't need to install Linux to make such a CD.

But you cannot restore an image with the free edition of Macrium unless you make and use this CD when the time comes.

The Hirens V14 boot CD has Macrium under it's mini XP environment. This can be used to restore Macrium images. But make the linux boot CD as well. I assume you've imaged your OS drive?

Re: partition D: do you think you have anything important on it and is there any reason it cannot be a regular NTFS formatted partition?

I have no way to burn anything to disks on this machine (no CD drive), is there a way to recover from the image without having to make a disk?

Yes. you download a .iso file and Unetbootin and you create a bootable USB flash drive. I mentioned that in my previous post referencing the link posted. The Hiran's program had Macrium on it.

You are missing the point. You can only restore an image of your system from a bootable CD/DVD or USB drive.
