Backup Problems with Media disc

When I try to back up I get the error Windows found errors on the media and can't use the disc. I have brand new DVD+R discs I'm using and even the DVD+RW I used previously and erased won't work.

This started after I did an update that caused problems and I back dated to correct. It was a service pack update.

What can I do to correct this problem? I have tried several discs and get the same error.

What program are you using to backup your files? If you could completely fill out your System Specs, it would help. Thanks,

I'm using the windows program in control panel. I hope that answers it. I don't know of other backup programs. I back up weekly to a DVD. The last three weeks it stops about 1/2 way through and says the disc can't be used. They are new Maxell DVD=
+R. When I put one in it formats the DVD and starts the backup fine. Then stops about half way. I have placed another one with the same results. And I tried Sony discs with the same error.

Doing weekly backup's, is best done with a HD.

Backing up to DVDs is one of the worst ideas I have seen - especially when you do it on a regular basis. It is costly, messy and as you see not safe. Get a 500GB external disk and things will work a lot smoother.

Now to your problem. Could it be that the data that is being backed up has grown beyond the capacity of the DVD (4.7GBs). Since all Windows backup facilities are pretty shuddy, you cannot expect it to tell you what is going on.

The easiest is to just copy the folders you want to backup to the external media. Then you know what you are doing. Other people recommend e.g. this program which I myself have never used because I make images of my data partition.
