Hope you can help me with my query.

1) I have done a back up using Win7 and noticed that the backup files have all been setup as like a archive files. What I would prefer is for Windows to create the backup into files that are not in these type of archive files, I want to be able to view them so I can see what files I have. In the past I have used the manual method of just copying and pasting files to my external drive and this allows me to view what files have been backed up.

2) When there a new files added to my backup directory e.g. new pictures that have been transferred from my phone to my internal hard drive on my PC. Will Windows backup recognise/identify these new files when I start the backup process each time, will it backup the entire folders/libraries all over again or only just those new added files?

There are numerous free backup programs that will do what you want. Files will be kept in native format with their normal extensions and can be viewed in Explorer as if they had been copied by mouse or keyboard.

Any of these programs will also copy only new or modified files during a second backup, rather than backing up everything again. The first backup might take considerable time, but later backups may take only seconds or a minute or two, depending on how many new or modified files have been made since the first backup.

All of these programs work pretty much in the same way, but would differ on well they are laid out. Some would be more easily understood than others---a better interface.

These programs typically have a control that allows you to keep a copy of deleted files if you want to do that. Or you can set them so that the backup files are a 100% mirror image of the originals---if Smith.doc is deleted from your originals, it is also deleted from the backup. Take your pick.
