Backup size increasing

Hello,

I am using windows backup for my users libraries, and a system image.
I have selected to keep only the latest backup.

Every time the machine backs up the file/s size on my backup drive increases.
After a couple of weeks the drive is full and I have to start all over again.

Why is the size increasing? I know that sometimes I have deleted files rather than add them.

Are you sure there isn't something you've installed that has increased the size? Maybe things like windows updates? Do you remove temporary files on a regular basis? That could make a difference too. I suggest using CCleaner to clean up temporary files; http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

From the Backup and Restore screen > Manage Space
will give you a summary of where your backup space is being used.
"View backup" will show you the number of file/folder backup sets you have. Older ones can be deleted if you wish.

I use it every Friday and haven't encounter that problem, but as Morph wrote, maybe is a program you installed, the same happened to me after installed a game.

I did not install any new programs etc.
In fact I deleted/uninstalled stuff.
For example I automatically run my backup on Mondays. This Sunday I noticed my drive was full (because of the size increasing). So I reformatted the drive and manually ran the backup program. I have only certain files and the option to "Keep only the latest system image". Total size was about 800 GB. Then Monday night, the night which I have scheduled as the auto backup, the program ran again. I did nothing to the computer between the backup times. The total size of the backup increased by roughly 50 gigs.


In regards to the CC Cleaner etc... I run that, spybot, and have Norton Internet security 2011. I also am running uTorrent. Could any of these be increasing the size?

Yes it sounds like that's the case. You could check my removing the current backup (or moving it to another harddisk just in case lol) and having it create a completely new one, then compare sizes.
If they're different sizes; your quoted suspicions are correct.
If they're the same size; ...well, then we've got some more investigating to do

Have I overlooked something? As I said you can physically inspect the size of your images and file/folder backups. Using the backup& Restore screen or manually.

Also, I never let Windows make images automatically. I think it's better to take manual control of these.

I found the following of the 3 items that backup creates:

The Folder that one clicks on to run the backup was not modified after the last backup its date is from when I created the backup.
The Folder that contains the backup files was modified during the last backup.
However there is one, and one and only file, that was not modified and its date is the date the original backup date.
That file is called "MediaId"

All other files were modified during the second backup.
Anyone have any ideas with this info?
I don't understand the folder nomenclature... If I watch to see what folders/files increase next time would that help?
