Backup with Macrium

Hello,
As you have recommended before, I use Macrium weekly to make backups of the system's disk "C".
Today while making a new full backup the display went "crazy", the program's window partially disappeared,
became partially white, came back and again partially white, but the program kept going very slowly up to the end. The whole backup file size is 12.3 GB and time (including verification) 1:18 hours. On other instances the process was rather fast, (file size almost the same) and no "crazy" display.
Is this 'normal' behavior or something wrong with the program ?
Could not find any answer on Macrium help.
Thanks for answering.

Something is wrong. Could be the program or the hardware. I have never seen that kind of behavior. Try again.

Definitely make the image again. I have never had that happen to me either.

Hello,
Thanks for the answers.
I run the program twice, Image "C" (system) then Image "F" (data) and all was smooth, only the "C" Image was a little bit longer then an hour (including verification) because of low transfer rate (don't know why).
I think the problem issue I posted first was my fault - 3 other programs were running in the background when
I started Macrium backup. This was my lesson !
However, is there a way to make the transfer rate faster ?
Thank again for the answers.

You can continue to use the computer whilst the image is being written.

Hello,
Thanks for the answers.
But first, we had a power break at home when I was writing this message, then when power came back and started the connection, the page was opened and I continued to write, when clicking on 'submit' I was asked to login, so if the message is posted twice, pls forgive.
So I ran Macrium twice, one "C" (system) backup, then "F" (data) backup and both were smooth, only the "C" backup ran a little bit more then an hour (including verification), because low transfer rate (don't know why). I think the problem was my fault - 3 other programs were running in the background when started Macrium - I had my lesson !!
Now about the low transfer rate, is there something to fix to make it faster ? It was only on the "C" backup.
And again, thanks for the answers.

What was your transfer rate and which are the from and to disks.

When you make Macrium images, try to disable, shutdown, turn off what can be "lived without" during the process. I've learned to "lean and mean" the current Windows sessions during this process, the rate seems to improve somewhat. And, for the purpose of a restore, have you already made either a DVD Macrium boot and/or a USB Macrium boot?

Hello,
Thanks for the answers.
1. While Macrium runs a full backup and no other programs run in the background, transfer rate from "C"
(system) to "G" (data 3) differs from 23 to 64 (the most), and from "F" (data 2) to "G" (data 3) is faster, about 46 to 78 (sometimes even up to 92). Next time I'll monitor it more carefully and write it down.

2. Yes, I made a rescue CD and used it once.
Note: With this Free Macrium can make only differential backups so I do it every second day, then I delete the older one.
Thanks
Motim

I guess you mean, only COMPLETE backups can be made with Free Macrium. == The way to speed up Macrium and all of your PC is to get a Solid State Disk. It will improve your speed tremendously. I don't know how available they are in your part of the world. In the USA they have gotten to where they are very cheap.

The numbers you posted are useless because I do not know what they are - minutes or bytes or hot dogs.

Hello,
Thanks for the answers.
I have in mind to buy an external usb disk, but right now I can manage the backups with the internal disk (another then the system disk). In my previous post I forgot to mention that after making a new full backup
I make every second day a differential backup, as with the free version cannot do an incremental backup.
Thanks
Motim
