Backup without Image

I have system images a fallback made at a stable point in time.
Now I want to be able to do a full (non image) backup of personal files etc without doing a new image. Easy with DVD or USB flash memory (stick). Attach a large external drive and I am forced to always do an image as well.
So how do i save a full or incremental (none image) backup to an external hard drive?

You can do full backups simply by dragging and dropping with a mouse. Maybe every week make a new full and delete the old full.

Backing up only stuff made since the last full backup is a major pain because you have to keep track of what that new stuff is. Any number of free and low cost programs can keep track of that for you. The incremental might take only 15 seconds, whereas a new full backup might take an hour or more, depending on how much stuff you have. That's why most people rely on a program rather than drag and drop.

If you have a spare computer, make a SAN, it has the ability to create "snapshots" of your data without the excessive disk space usage.

easiest way: go to backup and restore, click Manage settings, it will take you through the original screen you used to set up the image, simply check all your data folders, and uncheck "make a system image of C:" then run a backup. that should do it
