I have an 80GB W7/64 installation on a RAID 0 array.
Can I use a 30GB spin drive volume to back up the 80GB install?
Can I make a system image, of the 80GB array, on the 30GB volume?

Since I never had important data, I never backed my computers up properly. I would just fresh install whenever the box bunged. So I have no practical knowledge.

Now, when I redid my DIY #2 build recently, mobo failure, I added in all the spin drives I had accumulated, so I will now use that machine to backup DIY #3 and DIY #1. I can make the 30GB volume larger but if it size will work for backups???????

It will depend on how much data you have on the drive. E.g Macrium compresses an image by about 50% (+/-) of the actual data. So if you have let's say only 50GBs of data on the drive, it would certainly work. If it is a system drive with restore points, you can alwways first delete the restore points to save space for the image.
