Solved Bad Hardrives?

I have two different Laptops in which I expect the HDDs are the culprits, one gives me a beep code on start up with no display, while the other boots into Windows Error Recovery gets about 40% after the Launch Start-up Repair and gives me a 0x00000e9 status, An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

I have looked online for the beep code, but I cant seem to find the right one so I have attached a recording of the sound as .WAV file.

I have 3 different laptops and switching the HDDs are repeating the same problems, however I haven't got a unbroken laptop HDD to test the laptops.

Just want to know the difference in errors, and to see if there is any way to fix it just for fun.

Hello mastahelix mate depends by dropped you mean dropped - as onto the floor or the machine ?? Either way a hard drive is only capable of withstanding so much G force during a drop you may have damaged them beyond repair. To repair in a specialised shop them would cost you an absolute fortune.

Do they boot into a safe mode by any chance? The beep code mate is not playing at my end so can you describe them say one long beep twp short ones etc etc?

Hello,
I plugged the beeping HDD into a USB convertor and it is the HDD its self that is making the noise, which is why I couldn't diagnose the beep code, as by drop I meant the laptop and the sound was originally .wma and I changed the extension via renaming, since it wouldn't let me upload otherwise, I forgot to mention that.

I managed to figure out the exception code, I think it may have something to do with missing windows files, I won't know for certain, until I reinstall windows.

OK, now I am confused, every laptop I put this drive in, it gives me the I/O exception, but I can access it and use it normally as an external drive from my PC.

I am guessing here masta but maybe that is because if you installed it on one laptop the others may not be reading it correctly.

Now I suppose if it comes to it get the drive onto the PC where it does work and run a hard drive test on it from the PC the one usually used is Seatools SeaTools for Windows | Seagate

Ok it took a while and it seems it is full of errors, it failed its short scan and I didnt even bother to finish the surface scan. I think I will close this thread I feel I understand the problems and the beeping seems to indicate the head is stuck on the platter, I will try to fix that one.

Thank for the help I really like MiniTool, it is so fast for partitions and formats, as well as for the surface scan.

Well, at least I got the ISO image directly off the site. Now I need to install ImgBurn to burn it to a CD.

The vendor officially routes the download through CNET servers.. That is what I think.

I also prefer to download anything directly from the vendor's/author's site. But here there is no choice. In any case CNET is a reputed download site and that is why I accept it. I haven't found any adverse effects and/or any malafide additions.

As rightly pointed out by the OP the ISO can be directly downloaded from the author's site.

Oh ok just that I get a direct link here no probs The CNet stuff I do get the odd download because it is not available otherwise but have on occasion got wretched add on stuff that is difficult to clear out.
