I have a pretty decent computer. Not the best, but it should run all the games smoothly at least on minimal res. However when i play any kind of games whether it's a freeware game from the ethernet such as allods or league of legends, or store games like Dragon Age Origins and gta4 I end up with the will of using my computer as a chair rather than an actual computer. It starts to lag immensely unless I put it to minimum res. The interesting part is that when the game boots, it usually runs very smoothly for about 2-3 mins then the lag pops his head out of the garbage bin and affirms its presence with bad breath and a severe case of parkinson's disease. Any suggestions would be welcome (Oh and to mention that my integrated video card is apparently not supported by Win7 - Nvidia GeForce 9100 seen that I didnt find it on the comparability list on the Win7 site), and if any1 has any ideas about this (-swearword missing-) please please let me know because this (refer to latter brackets) is... oh so very frustrating!

These drivers:

NVIDIA DRIVERS 197.45 WHQL

are supposed to support the 9100. That's from the .inf in the installer, not the online support list.

I dunno that it'll convert your system into a whizbang gaming machine, but it's worth a try.

@bobkn

I tried the driver but it didnt make much of a difference. I'm sure that on any other kind of machine it would help, but not on mine. (The thing is that I'm also experiencing windows 7 crashes along with the "blue screen" but only when my graphics card is in use i.e. gameplay or movies/streaming; Worse come to worse, I have a 3 year warranty with Future Shop ;))

@stromy13

Hum, makes sense. As I'm guessing, Ill have to check the compatibility with the motherboard, win7, etc. etc. for the video card, so I guess I could do that on my own (unless you would point me out to the obvious direction ^_^) However, could you recommend me a certain type of power supply? I would very much appreciate it :)

p.s. Nonetheless after my penIII/1gig of RAM/32MB of video, any computer seems like heaven :) (long live Diablo 1 solo and Doom nights heh)

Sorry to hear that you're getting graphics crashes.

Your system has a PCI-E X16 slot for a graphics card, so most graphics cards now on the market will fit. (I belive that the PCI-E 2.0 and 2.1 cards are backwards compatible with PCI-E X16 1.0.)

If you wanted an add-in graphics card, I'm not sure what to recommend. Your 300W PSU is supposed to be adequate for cards that use the nVidia GTS 240 graphics chip. Such cards don't need an auxiliary PCI-E power connection. Cards based on the ATI 4670 or 5670 chipset supposedly want 400W PSUs, even though they, like the GT 240, draw all their power through the PCI-E slot (75W maximum). The 5670 is a DX11 card, but I'm not sure that makes it more future-proof than the others. My favorite resource for checking out graphics cards is the power search option at www.newegg.com. I tend to believe that the ATI cards give the best performance for the price, but I prefer nVidia's drivers. (This is all subjective; I haven't studied it.)

Horrible video card lag while playing games.

I am having the SAME problems listed in the original post. This has only started happening to me within the past few weeks. I've had my computer for nearly a year now with no problems running any of the following games:

World of Warcraft
Warcraft III: TFT
Starcraft II
Diablo II LoD
Civilization IV
Counter-Strike: Source

BUT since going through a bunch of windows updates and game updates and other updates, this problem has started happening no matter what my graphics settings are and no matter what game I am playing. I've tried updating everything, used multiple virus scanners, tried optimizing different settings and then put them back to their original settings, tried standing on my head and drinking ketchup through a spoon-straw from 7-11... Nothing works!

I'm going crazy trying to figure this one out.
