Solved Bad ram and a story of RMA

I bought 8 sticks of ram G.Skell because of the recommendations of it being good.
After many hours of testing I found two bad sticks. I do understand that things like this can happen.
I packaged them with more caution than needed and set them to G.Skell and this is the email they sent me.

We recently received your replacement package and after thoroughly inspecting the modules you sent in, it seems as if one of the sticks was dropped and chipped. Under our warranty, we can replace anything that is not considered physically damaged. Due to your stick being physically damaged, the warranty for that stick has been voided.

That is 400% B/S. Even with a magnifying glass I saw no damage. Yes I used a magnifying glass to look for problems when I was going through many hours of MemTest86+ and it's the only way I can see the information on each stick.
I will just go to another brand of ram. Before using G.Skill I always use Kingston with no problems. I will just go back to Kingston.
When I get the money to replace all the G.Skill (6 sticks) I will send them back and their will be no doubt that those 6 sticks are damaged.

That is very unfortunate.

I hate this kind on email, what's to say that the stick wasn't physically damaged before you received it, how can they be so sure of that (i understand you checked this with a magnifying glass but just saying).

They are essentially saying you have broken it without any intention of of accepting that it could have been faulty from the manufacturing/packing/storage/shipping process.

I do like Kingston and never had an issue with them either.

In contrast, different product but after 2.5 years my WOW mouse started having issues scrolling down... it kept jumping back up which was very annoying.

I contacted Steelseries and they replaced it with a brand new mouse under warranty that i didn't even know i had, never though i would get that kind of warranty on a mouse without even registering it or paying extra etc...

This is the kind of service that i like to see.

That's sad.

I'm wondering if they just have a quota of how many RMAs they can endure in any given month? If they are over the quota, they just send off the generic email you got, knowing that you have no way of proving to the contrary. All in the name of keeping their profit/loss statement in the black.

That would be fraud of course, but what can a consumer do about it?

I'm reminded of the time my credit card company dinged me for non-payment. I couldn't prove I had sent in the check. Six months later, I received a manila envelope from the US Post Office, containing the remains of my envelope and check-- they had been mangled in a sorting machine. No use telling that story to the credit card company.

I'm looking for new ram as I post. I packaged it so well you could of put a raw egg in the package and would not get damaged.

Jack, I'm really sorry to hear that. I have used G Skill exclusively for quite a few years and have never had a problem with them. I'm actually kind of shocked. But, that is total BS, as far as I'm concerned.

That is why I bought 32 gigs of G.Skill. Just in case some were bad. It can happen with anything. Then all I would have to do is RMA the bad ones and get on with my life.
Plan "A" isn't working.

I just joined the G.Skill Forum and I'm waiting for them to okay my membership.

I don't think any good will come of it if it is anything like their RMA people.

Still waiting for them to see if I'm a good person so I can post on their forum.

I've had really good luck with Mushkin RAM. I had an RMA a couple of years ago for a bad stick and it was painless. They replaced them as a matched pair, and I had them in my hands the day after Mushkin received the bad ones, with a note of apology.

Now that's service.

I've never used Mushkin ram, but I've heard good things about their ram and their customer service. I have used a couple of their other products though.

I never send in an RMA without photos and copies of everything.

I agree with the suggestion to push back. It's BS, you know it, you just need to get above the bozo who dropped the module unpacking it.

I have been looking at some Mushkin ram but I cant seem to find any in a 32 gig package that states DDR3 Quad Channel or Dual/Quad channel.

I could live quiet well with 16 gb. I will check it out later. Really no hurry things are working just fine. Waiting for parts for my other computer. Hopefully the middle of next week they will be here.

Another reason I will wait before doing any more looking is while looking I found a keyboard that I just couldn't pass up. So I ordered one.

Boy, and I thought I paid a lot for Gaming Keyboards. I have heard Das is pretty good. I still don't know about the key colors. Each color has a different feel and sound. I've been tempted to try a mechanical keyboard, but haven't so far. I hope Smarteyeball doesn't see this post, he will be on me to get one. LOL.

As far as the Mushkin Ram, try calling tech support and they can tell you. I hear they are excellent.

Well it's really not advertised as a gaming board. I glad it isn't because that would be another $50.00 for the word gaming.

Another feature I liked was the 6 1/2 ft usb cord. Most boards don't tell you the length or they are so short the tower with all the fans would have to sit on top of your desk for the cable to reach. Sure do hope I like it.

Very nice keyboard. I prefer mine to be backlit, but I could learn to love one of those Das 'boards just the same.

And like essenbe said, contact Mushkin support about that dual/quad channel thing. I'm sure they'll be able to help.
