not a question, just info

I bank with RBS in the UK and last night I went to check my balance, but could not log in - 'account locked due to suspicious activity'. The call center wasn't much help - just claimed I had a virus and needed to download some software. Since this was word-for-word what the phone scammers say, I declined.

I then scanned all my machines with AVG, Malwarebytes and Mbam anti-rootkit but found nothing. Was this just a ruse to get me to download the bank's software ?

Today I got through to the bank fraud tech guy. He explained that banking malware can be detected in my cookies at their end, and that AVG etc can't catch it. He suggested swapping AVG for MSE and downloading their software/browser helper called Trusteer Rapport, so I did. I fired up Firefox and bam - Shylock malware detected. This was deleted and after a reboot I can now log on to my bank.

RBS online have been pushing this Rapport malarkey for a couple of years, but I thought I didn't need it. Makes you think. Google 'shylock malware'.

I'd heard similar tales of the software hogging cpus, but here's Rapport in task manager on my 4770K -

not using a lot of resources. I buy all my computer stuff online, also groceries etc - so this little hiccup in online banking had me worried.
