Leaving your laptop plugged in the entire time will dramatically decrease your battery life., and so it isn't the best thing to do..

Theres at least 2 sides to this question, and its been asked and debated for as long as theres been laptops. As far as the pure hardware goes, once the battery is charged the current just passes through it/by-passes it for want of a better analogy. ( I'm not a tech writer)
Except for the time spent actually driving in my job (see my username), my Lappy stays plugged in 100% of the time. Have done this with my last 2 and current laptop (see spec.'s), with no noticeable degradation in my battery. I repeat, NO noticeable ill effects. From any of them , Compaq, Toshiba, Asus.
If you're worried about it, uplug it. Or take the battery out while connected. But IMHO, you don't have to and to me its just an unnecessary hassle.

This will not harm your laptop. Problem solved.

No, IT WILL NOT! Laptop batteries are not stupid like rechargeable batteries. Laptop batteries only charge to their maximum limit then stop and vise verse. Keeping your laptop plugged in when never harm the battery, they are smarter then that, with built in protection circuitry.

It was bad news to leave NICAD batteries on extended charge and never use them. As far as I know todays Lithium batteries don't have that problem.
@ the OP, if you have removed the battery leaving the laptop on the charger shouldn't be a problem. If the battery is dead and you leave it in, the charger will just waste energy and likely get hot constantly trying to charge it.
