Solved Battery Icon Disappeared

The battery icon at the bottom right of my screen diappeared and is apparently "inactive." It happened after a reboot i believe. I go into the settings and set it to "always display icon and notifications" or whatever for the battery/power icon, but it says "this icon is inactive and will display when it becomes active" or something along those lines. why is this?

Sometimes restarting the computer will resolve this. If not, then this may be able to help enable the Power (battery) system icon to have it show up again.

Hello PittPens1787 and welcome to the Forum. Can't tell you specifically why the icon suddenly disappeared but it may have something to do with Windows Updates. I found this thread on our sister Vista Forum.

You can read through the whole thing at your convenience but the fix in Vista is:

I decided to look into the Device Manager. I found two items listed under the Batteries section: 1) Microsoft AC Adapter and 2) Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Since they're devices, you can enable/disable them, so while I had my computer plugged in, I disabled the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and then re-enabled it. After it was enabled again, I could go into Taskbar Properties and enable the Power icon. No uninstalling stuff, no reboots. After restarting my machine, the icon is still here and everything is back to normal.

You can access Device Manager through the control panel or by typing Device Manager in the start search box and clicking on it. Once DM opens, expand Batteries, right click the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and click Disable. Click yes in the warning box. The DM window should flash or flicker and repopulate all items. If you right click ACPI again you should see the option to Enable.

It worked

I know this is very late after the fact, but i tried these steps today and it worked perfectly. Now all i need to figure out is how to get my volume icon back lol

i used to lose my volume icon occasionally and restarting explorer.exe would bring it back. ,

Did you try the tutorial in the post above to see if it may be able to also enable the Volume icon?

Brilliant solution

Thank you - worked fine even though my laptop was running on battery. I'm pretty sure that the driver just controls communication between Windows and the battery, so a brief interruption is fine, and that's all it took.

I know this is way out of date but I would like to add to this because I was having an issue with missing power icon anyway marsmimar's solution works in windows 8.1 pro 64 bit as well it was about to drive me nuts lol but a thank you to marsmimar keep up the good work and advice
