You can probably still use the laptop indefinitely on AC/DC power (depending on which country in which you live) but the battery will stop holding any sort of a charge very soon. BTW, the CMOS battery on the motherboard has a lifespan of only a few years too. When your computer no longer "holds" the date, you'll know it's the CMOS battery that needs changing too.

Yes, it is time to get a new battery. You're running 7 on this laptop I assuming? That warning "feature" is a new thing in Windows, it monitors that battery and its charge cycles to determine how good it is. It goes to something like, if 70 percent of the battery is worn down I believe, it freaks out like that. You won't really be able to use it on battery so much, I've personally seen that before and that laptop lasted only about half an hour just sitting there. Not too good.

But yes, you can use it on AC power indefinitely. Battery, NAH! :D
