Battery/Shutdown Issues

Recently, when using the laptop in battery mode, when the battery got to critical level my pc began shuttiing down (which is what I've had it set for forever now). And,at first, when it started doing this,it would still give me the "low battery" warning. But,when I would plug it in and start it up again,it would inform me that shutdown was improper and give me different options for start up.

I've searched and searched and changed a few settings here and there and tested a couple of times but,it seems that when it's set to "shutdown" on critical battery level,it just will not shutdown properly.Sleep/hibernation (seems to) work fine. And,as I said, when this first started happening,I would receive a warning of "low battery level".Then the warnings just stopped and it would just shutdown and I would get the same "shutdown error" message again upon reboot.

After I changed some settings I again began receiving the "low battery" warning.Any help with this issue would be IMMENSELY appreciated. And,as I said....it does (or seems to.I can't say I've tested it enough for that) fine when "critical action" is set to sleep or hibernate. But,when set to "shutdown" it just will not shutdown properly.Any help at all with this issue would be IMMENSELY appreciated. And,sorry if I posted in the wrong section.I just wasn't sure which section to really post this in.Thanks for any and all help !!

Try using Battery Care and doing a calibration of your battery. It is possible that the battery has been cycld to the point where it needs to be replaced. I assume that you can properly shutdown when running on AC power.

I will try what you're suggesting.Although,I actually did do a battery check about 2 mos ago and everything seemed fine. But,I'm beginning to think you could be right about the battery needing to be replaced (except for the fact that I really haven't used it all that much.Although,it is at least 2 years old now). And,yes,it does shut down properly on ac.

Okay,I've run a battery check through the HP support assistant and it says everything is okay.BUT...according to their website this calibration thing (the best way,I suppose) is going to take hours. So,I will perform this calibration tonight and post the results tomorrow.Jc........thanks for your help my friend.Just in case,I'll check this post in about 20 mins.....(in case you have anything else to tell me)

As to the battery-everytime you have the laptop connected to the wall can count for a charging cycle. HP has a good approach to calibration, but I do like Battery Care as a full time means of monitoring. I would go the full discharge/recharge route to be certain that all is well.

Guitarfiend: Battery care is not an HP program. Go to http:\\batterycare.net to get it. The author has a very good article on the subject there. Hope this gets things going for you.
