I just recently doing devil may cry 4 benchmark and getting black screen freeze AT THE SAME SPOT on scene 3 i already tried it like 4 times and the funny thing i freeze at the same spot.

So i recently play left 4 dead 2 no problem at all playing like 4-5 hours, bioshock 2,mass effect2,blur, nfs shift, just cause 2,resident evil 5,splinter cell conviction, street fighter 4,assassin creed2,etc no problem at all.

I have already done those thing above, i have run memtest86+ for each stick for as long as 12 hours with no errors.
And i have run prime95 for as long as 18 hours no errors,so my system is stable.

That code 124 is a tough one to solve. That is why we use the canned answer to help those with the problem. I will inquire as to other solutions, and others with ideas will stop by also.

I have posted for help.

Hey yo,
I'm sorry to ask you for this, I agree that stop code 124 is hard to deal with but if I were you, I would try everything just to make my computer work first. If I were you, I would go to BIOS and reset everything to optimal default setting to see how it goes.

Overclocking can make your system, CPU in particular, can run very unstable, have you tried this CPU stress test yet:
Try this free stress test: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead.
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

Check your system temperature by using SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

I'm not good at diagnostic this either, but I feel kidda sad when you don't want to try to stop overclocking, it is the main cause of so many stop code 124 that I've seen

Regard,

Tuan

jefs, troubleshooting 124 errors, or most BSOD's for that matter, is a process of elimination. You have to eliminate everything that is known to cause a conflict or a crash. Overclocking definitely causes crashes on some systems. I am not saying it caused the crash on your system; but we will never know unless you try your system returned to stock. If returning to stock does not stop the crashes, we look for something else. But overclocking is an obvious one.

It is obviously your choice. You posted asking for help and we are giving you the best advice we can based on our knowledge and experience. Do we have all the answers? Not hardly; but we do have experience with a lot of BSOD's and a lot of varied systems. 124's are hard to solve. You just keep trying until you find the key - but you must try each key.

Hello,

We have seen tons of occasions where Overclocking used to cause BSOD. It won't hurt to reset everything to default and see if the System is stable. Do you remember how many passes have you ran for MemTest86+. We would recommend atleast 6 passes.

Run a Hardware Diagnostic (Memory and Hard Drive) follow this link for instructions Hardware Diagnostic !! « Captain Debugger

Uninstall DAEMON Tools Lite it's a well known cause for BSOD. See if the System is stable. Also uninstall all the Asus related Utilities (Not drivers) Remove AVG and use the Removal Tool and clean the left over files AVG - Tools download and install Microsoft Security Essentials
Code:

Download Speedfan and check the Temperature make sure it's not very hot. So we can rule out heating issues.

Hope this helps,
Captain

Returning to default setting or stock speed didnt help either.I did try returned to stock still no luck when playing this game :
-gta 4
-gta ballad of gay tony
-Borderlands
-Crysis warhead
-Crysis
-Devil may cry 4
-Alien vs predator,etc
-The.Chronicles.of.Riddick.Assault.on.Dark.Athena
BUT IT DIDNT HAPPEN in newer games like (even when overclock):
-Left 4dead 2
-Just cause 2
-Resident evil 5
-The sims 3
-Napoleon total war
-Blur
-Street fighter 4
-Split second
-Prototype
-Dragon age origins/awakening
-Mass effect 2
-Assassin creed 2
-Prince of persia the forgotten sands
-Metro 2033,etc

And for tuan look at my previous post,i already stress my cpu so many time approx like 18 hours no errors(Large FFT).Based onHOWTO: Overclock C2Q (Quads) and C2D (Duals) - A Guide v1.6.1
My cpu is Q8300 at 3,0ghz idle at 35-38 C and full load at 55-57C and its far from overheating.Look at my specs.
