BCCODEs; 1e, 1b, 1c, 24 etc

Hi guys,

Having major issues with BSOD after installing the following two bits of hardware:

• Cisco Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter #WMP600N-EU
• WD 1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Caviar Black Hard Drive - 7200rpm 64MB Cache

The wireless card is supposed to work on Win7 64bit, but I don't have their software for network managing installed (tried it and it still BSODs), and I can't seem to find the most up-to-date drivers anywhere on their site, but Windows seems to think it's up to date anyway

As for the HD, my motherboard doesn't support SATA3, but I thought it should just make my HD use SATA 2 anyway?

After it BSOD's, sometimes it says it's not connected to the network or will be difficult connecting to my wireless network, so I presume that's the problems, especially since when I disable the card, there are no BSOD errors.

Also, I've tried disabling IPv6 for this card to no avail.

Any help would be massively appreciated... this is such a pain in the behind!!

Hi guys.. this forum is pretty filled with problems hah! I never realised Windows broke so often!

I think my post has gotten buried amongst everyone else's problems =[

I don't know if it helps any, but I've turned off automatic-restarting on my PC so that the BSOD stays open.. is there any information I can give you guys to help there?

It's crashing about every 20 minutes or so now, so it's a real nightmare, which is a shame because the actual PC itself is really quite powerful.

I'm fairly used to the Windows menus and such like, so if there's anything I can try I am more than happy to play with stuff to get this fixed.

Thanks. I had a look through there, but I'm getting a real range of errors... from 24 to 1c to 34 (latest), and they all point to different problems... shouldn't I just be getting one error constantly? I'm not sure how to go about fixing the problem if there seems to be many different causes of it?

With that many errors, I'd do a clean install .. if it was my computer.

I've fresh installed twice, and I'm really reluctant to do it a third time. I have a student download of Windows 7, and I think it only lets me use the serial key three times, and I've used it twice up to now.

Do different BCCODES mean multiple issues for sure then, or could it be one issue causing many errors? That NTFS one that I read from the link you sent suggests HDD problems. If it's hardware related I can probably send the HDD back to ebuyer since it's BSOD'd since I bought it.

I thought it might be the wireless card though because I know that they cause problems on 64bit, and it doesn't BSOD when it's disabled?

Have a look at what VEW finds ... it's a more interpretive event viewer.

Download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop
Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.
Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left
Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).
Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run
Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad

You've got a whole lot of stuff going on here. I went through every single dump (all 49 of them) and your crashes range from memory corruption, to driver corruption to software errors.

First start off by uninstalling avast!. It caused a majority of the crashes. You can use the Add/Remove programs to uninstall it or you can use the uninstall tool if you have problems. You may use Microsoft Security Essentials as a replacement.

3. Hard drive test using SeaTools

Start off with that stuff and report back any errors/problems you encounter. If after doing the above the crashes continue please enable driver verifier.

Firstly, thank you guys so much! It's 11PM here and I've got work in the morning, so I'll try this as soon as I get home tomorrow and see what happens.. Guiltily, I didn't even realise that there was an SP1 out for Windows 7 yet =[!

Thanks, and I really appreciate your help. I'm not a newbie to fixing PCs and such, but hardware and driver faults just confuse me totally, and to be honest, they scare me too! I was really worried that my HDD (a few months old!) was DOA and that I'd have to shell out more for a new wireless card.

I'm still at work now (where I spend most of my life it seems!), but I'll be home in a few hours and I'll be doing everything listed to try to sort it out... damned thing sure is frustrating when you're in the middle of something and it just dies on you... I guess it's not doing the hardware much good either.

Anyway, thank you so much, and I truly do appreciate the help.. There's no way I'd get it sorted without you guys. I have no idea how you guys learn so much about the hardware side of things, it amazes me, because it seems so hard to track down errors to one particular thing that's easy to fix.

Anyway, provided the PC doesn't explode, I'll post back shortly!

Hi guys. I uninstalled avast, updated all drivers except realtek and logitech (couldn't see which to get, so was gonna ask you guys). I also installed sp1 and restarted and when it first booted up it BSOD, but now when I boot up it comes up with a 'amd data change...update new data to DMI' and wont go any further. It used to flash up with that before, but only for a second. Now it gets stuck on it and I cant use the pc :-(.

Am posting this on my iPhone lol, which isn't so easy. I've taken a picture of the error and will see if I can upload from iPhone.

Look in the BIOS for a setting called update ESCD and disable it.

This is taken from another forum so I'm not sure what that is.

@Scott - it seems others are having this issue too, but "appears" to be easy to fix. Watch carefully during the boot process for the prompt to enter the BIOS Setup Menu. Typically, you must press the Del, F1 or F2 key, depending on who makes the BIOS. Once there, simply make sure the date and time are correct and your drives are properly identified. Then, and this is the important part, you must make sure you "Save and Exit". If you don't Save, then you will get the AMD message again.

For some folks, they needed to reset the BIOS, but try the above first.

Got into bios eventually, and I can't see a setting similar to the one in the first quote, but regarding the second quote, when I go onto 'Basic CMOS setup' and under 'IDE channel 1 Master', there's nothing listed and when I click auto to make it search for the HDD, it doesn't seem to fInd anything. I guess that doesn't help if it's not picking up the HDD, but it obviously must have been at some point because it was running the OS etc.

It's getting more and more bizarre now lol :-(

Also, more oddly, under the advanced settings I can specify what the system boots from, and it tries CDROM first and then the HDD. I don't have a cd drive anyway, but there's an option called 'Hard disc boot priority' and under there my HDD is actually listed... So is it finding the HDD after all, of has it just 'remembered' a setting? Lastly, my OnChip SATA Type is set to AHCO at present also if that helps at all?

Also, just seen this - the error I was getting was abot DMA and one setting on the bios here is 'ECP mode use DMA' and that's set to 3.

This is kinda out of my expertise so I'll need to find someone experienced with this type of stuff to look this over.

So I assume your using an IDE drive and not SATA correct? Have you tried checking the other IDE channels? Have you checked to make sure everythings plugged in? By ACHO I assume you meant ACHI. You can leave that alone. You can try changing the 'ECP mode use DMA' to channel 1. Try changing the boot order to boot to the hard drive first. And lastly, try resetting the BIOS to defaults or fail-safe and make sure you save an exit.
