BD-ROM Drive not being checked at boot-up!

When I powered the computer on it would first search for the BD-ROM Drive, display "no medium" (no boot disk inserted) and carry on booting from my internal drive. It no longer checks with the ROM drive before actually booting up.
Would anyone know the reason for this and how to fix it?

Hello Bobby,

It sounds like the BD-ROM drive is no longer listed before the HDD on the boot priority list in the BIOS. If it was listed before the HDD, it would check the BD-ROM drive to see if it had a bootable CD/DVD in it, and ask you if you wanted to boot from it instead of the HDD if there was.

Sounds logical to to me. Any idea of how this could have occurred? I have not been in the BIOS ever. Would you happen to have any instructions of how I could correct the boot priority in the BIOS?

Sometimes things just happen. TO fix it, when you boot up you computer you should see a screen that tells you to pree F2, F1, Del, or some other key to enter "Setup" press that key before the screen goes away, and you'll be in the BIOS settings. Look around and you will eventually find boot device/order. Instructions should provided on how to change the order.

I did as you suggested and it displayed the boot priority as being my main drive first and my ROM drive second. It would only allow me to change the order of hard drives, of which I have three. There was no option in "change the boot priority" that included my ROM drive. Kind of strange...........further suggestions?

Usually F8 or Del will bring up a one-time boot menu which will give you the option to boot from you disc drive. You can use google to figure out which key it is for your computer.

In addition, usually can select and press enter on the first device listed, then be able to select the BD-ROM drive as the first one. Next, just select the HDD for the 2nd item.

The only list I found when the page opened already showed the boot priority. My hard drive was first with my ROM drive being second. So I don't really understand what you mean. Could you explain further?

It took a ridiculous amount of time to find this, but press F12 repeatedly when you cut the computer on. That should give you the option to boot from the disc.

Thanks so much for spending the time on this. I, however, after Googling, found that on a Dell most folks said it is the F8 key. (there was some argument over this) On my machine before it boots it presents a "boot options" prompt (so far.) It then presents a list. One of the options is "boot from CD." I had to use it once after my boot priority mysteriously changed and my machine wouldn't boot. But I want the option back that if the hard disk won't boot then Win 7 will automatically look for a boot CD in the drive and proceed. A good feature since it eliminates the time wasted clicking and scrolling and clicking again.
I'll try both the F12 and F8 solutions. It would be good to know another way of getting the ROM drive to boot as a failsafe measure in case the prompt I mentioned earlier mysteriously disappears too in the future.
