Best AHCI Driver, Sandy Bridge PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C02&SUBSYS_1497103C

Very common chipset and SATA device but for whatever reason, no modern driver seems to stick except maybe the drivers embedded with IRST. Is there a way to separate out JUST the driver without that IRST management stack? It slows down boot and seems to stop and wait while polling with a lot of interrupts on this one so I killed the management applications and it deleted the driver....:(. why?

there should be just a somewhat modern driver that I can load via Device Manager but auto-searching the Windows Catalog pulls nothing.
HW ID:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C02&SUBSYS_1497103C

?

This is a HP Pro 6200, i5, pretty much stock except for running a SSD

Also FWIW Windows Update shows a driver update for the USB subsystem but it will not install. Don't know why. Default loaded for USB

thank you for some pointer

yes

first download the irst driver exe. I think this is it.

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (Intel(R) RST) User Interface and Driver

also download 7zip, then install it
7z1900-x64.msi

7zip will automatically install a shortcut into windows' explorer right-click menu so when you right click on files you will have the option to "extract files". You will be using that below

use 7zip to extract the files contained in the irst exe you downloaded (setuprst.exe) into a folder

one of those extracted files will be called rst_x64. Then extract the files contained within it, into another folder. One of the files in that folder will be called drivers.cab. Then use 7zip again to extract its files into another yet folder.

That final folder will contain two driver setup files, which have a filetype of inf. One will be iastor and the other is iaahci. You can then go into device manager and replace your disk controller device driver by manually browsing to the iaahci file and selecting it to install. Not saying this will solve your issue, am just answering your question.

That said, I would advise these steps...

your hardware ID of 8086/1C02 is mentioned here, may want to check it out
Access Denied

intel says the driver for your hardware id is on this page (somewhere lol)
Downloads for Chipsets

I would run intel driver assistant
Intel(R) Driver & Support Assistant

Given what you said about irst I wonder if you still have unneeded drivers that are messing you up. What does the right hand side of the screen show when you do start > run > msinfo32 > enter > components > problem devices

DSA / driver asst fails...already been there. I didn’t think of extracting archive. Will do that and given the amd interference I think I’ll load again the chipset drivers ..I think the USB bus is not happy yet, as I had to remedy a mouse/kid issue that should not happen

No.
I got the thing going as well as it can. Looking at the drivers tab in Autoruns, it still is loading AMD drivers: PCI filter, SATA, and a couple of others. When I tried to block them it would not boot; had to go through a restore point rollback. Autoruns also shows a McAfee controller that isn't real, but if I disable that, the drive won't boot. [Maybe AUTORUNS is buggy... there's a thought]. SFC Scan turns up clean... but then I"ve never gotten much useful help from SFC. So it has compromises, but it works, not many errors in the Events logs, and the SSD helps mask the background overhead ;)
