Best computer for a value of £600 to £650

So basically I need help deciding which computer I would get.

I thought about either the Mac Mini or HP Pavillion p6-2065uk Desktop.

It would be the machine I use 8-15 hours a day and I would use it for editing and maybe gaming.

Editing what? A novel? A jpeg? A movie?

Laptop or desktop? Don't expect much gaming from a laptop at that price point.

Also complicated by the fact that you apparently are in the UK, where prices are relatively high for PCs and parts.

That's over $1000 US, which would buy a very strong machine in the US, but that means little because you are in the UK--or at least using UK pounds.

Post links to 2 or 3 major suppliers that you might actually buy from and we will try to pick and choose from whatever they have.

I assume you have no intention of building a PC from scratch yourself.

Desktop preferably.

I normally edit .png from Photoshop but might try some other stuff.

I do not know how to build a computer.

HP, Dell, Acer?

Probably Dell or HP rather than Acer.

Post a link of 2 or 3 suppliers in whatever country you live in and we will try to pick one for you.

After we see the links, we will need more info from you, but we can't do anything now until we know who you might buy from.

I assume you intend to buy over the Internet rather than walking into a store?

More details needed.

I agree with Badger. That's Dell in his link is a good starting point.

I ran through the configurator. It's 549 pounds, with 4 GB of RAM, no monitor, and no backup drive. It includes Office 2010 starter.

Dell has the gall to ask for 130 pounds to upgrade from 4 gb of ram to 8 gb. Retail price of the additional 4 GB would be about 25 dollars in the US, so they rip you off there. I'd urge you to go with 4 GB from Dell and then upgrade to 8 on your own or by taking it to a local shop and have them pop in the additional 4 GB.

You really should have a second drive, probably external, for backups. But Dell probably wants a fortune for that too, so get it later from a local shop.

Monitor: do your own shopping, but it may be that the available Dell monitors are overpriced. Compare to what you can get locally.

I am OCD about speed, I hate all the bloatware and crapware pre-installed.

I am wondering if I get this to i7 Processor can I have the option to upgrade the Ram and SSD whenever

Does that 469 pounds Dell include a monitor?

A 2600 is noticeably stronger than a 2120, but your budget may dictate what you can afford.

I'd go with a Dell of some type, but you need to pray.

Pray that you never need to rely on support from Dell--or from HP or any other manufacturer, for that matter.

If you haven't included it, I would pay the extra 5GBP and get the installation disks in case you need to reinstall windows later. Also, if you have the option, do not install Macafee, it will cause constant problems with your computer. If it is already installed, download the macafee removal tool from Cnet and replace it with free MSE.

I'll probably get Kaspersky Pure

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I will reinstall any computer I get with Win7 Ultimate, as I have a spare copy so I am not worried about that but as my netbook needs network drivers to work, do you think the computer I will get needs drivers too?

Your Windows disk should include all necessary drivers. If not, you should download the newest available drivers directly from Dell or whatever brand you purchase.

It's still a good idea to get the installation disks as Essenbe mentioned.

I think if you install your own Windows Ultimate, you may have a hard time getting any support from Dell, but that's your business. It might even affect your warranty? I doubt Dell would take back a PC if you have installed a different OS.

If you have the installation disks mentioned by Essenbe, you could at least restore it to factory condition if you need to make a warranty claim.

Hmm, I will buy restore disks, do computers come with disks with drivers stored on, I could just use them to install the drivers?

Does it really restore Warranty, does the same apply to Jailbreaking and stuff?
