Between the AMD 980 and the FX 6100 AND the AMD A8-3870 APU
I think Im going with the 980. Is there any chance the A8 3870 out performs the other two?

I'm looking for the most frames per second I can get on new games like (MULTIPLAYER - 30-40-50 player) Battlefield 3. I only have 300 to spend on a CPU and Video card upgrade. So roughly 150 each.

I am reading alot of mixed reviews.
The intel I3 2120 , AMD 6100, AMD 980 Chips are what its coming down too.
I understand that genrically the 2120 intel chips "do the most effecient (Per core) work.

But most importantly, I am finding people that say Dual Core Chips show their weaknesses on larger multiplayer - outdoor areas.

(Dual Core was the Crippling case for GTA IV, so its very hard for me to believe that Battlefield 3 x 40 player+ has no need for Quad core) (Although perhaps the physics are lighter. I dont know).

Does anyone here actually play Battlefield 3 , Multiplayer, on large outdoor maps
with either the i3 2120 / AMD 6100 / AMD 980 Chip?

Im sure any of the three will do very decently. I want an AMD chip, but I keep hearing people say "go with the 2120" over and over. I'm thinking it will be safest to go with the 980 quad core chip.

===========

Disregard the rest of the set-up like MoBo - Ram for the moment. Ill patch that up later.
I dont mind dropping the Settings down from ultra. I dont have to run graphics max max.
If I can get high across the board without frame drops, that is plenty great.

Id imagine any of these chips will do great. I just do not know if I should trust dual core (Which will probably fail GTA 4 anyhow). or stick with 6 core. which might be too many for gta4 also X_x

Well its not POS Vista lol : )
Better to go Quad reduces stress and will not limit your games

Quad or Six core are more recommended
