best flac player?

what do YOU think is the best FLAC player?
My personal favorites is:Aimp3 & foobar2000 in that order.

Winamp, for all music formats (including FLAC). I like its small footprint, 10-band EQ with "presets for individual tracks if you want, as well as default for all else", album art window, Playlist Editor, etc.

For music collections in general, including playing all music formats (including FLAC) with a simple 3-band EQ I use Jaangle. I like its presentation, artist art/bio, album art/tracklist/review, simple or sophisticated search, etc.

Funny, I never cared for libraries, album artwork, ratings, search capabilities...maybe I'm too old-school, I've always liked to have a simple folder hierarchy of properly named MP3 files without all the ID3 baggage. Then I just load up the whole thing in Winamp's playlist and let 'er rip on random shuffle.

Aw... come on. collecting album art is fun. It gives me pleasure to see a high-quality cover showing in Winamp's 500x500 Album Art window.

And I also use G-Force Platinum as a Winamp "visualizer" plugin, which "dances along to the rhythm, beat and mood of the musc". (see lower-right in screenshot below). Simply the best, and makes listening/watching music fun.

As for Jaangle, well again... it's a different program, for a different purpose, but provides me with yet another way to use my large PC music collection, for when it's particular perspective and functionality is appropriate for that moment.

I agree, album art can be fun. Certainly don't mean to suggest otherwise - it's just not for me.

Plus, I have some pretty unusual tastes, and the majority of my music is either rare/odd releases, very old stuff or more "underground" kind of music like DJ club mixes, even "scene" music like C64/Amiga remixes by hobby musicians which doesn't even come with any album art to speak of...it's just the music.

Thanks for the G-Force tip, though - I do love cool visualisation plugins! Will be checking this one out.

If you do go with G-Force Platinum let me know, and I'll post my "customizations" (about 10 lines of change).

The default "INI" file morphs a bit too slowly and ploddingly for my tastes. I like transitions to be faster in coming, as I keep looking forward to the next piece of visual magic to appear onscreen.

There are about 10 lines in the INI file which govern those morph rates, i.e. how long a given component remains in effect before a change to the next one begins. There are about five different components all working together (and randomly) within G-Force, and each of those components is also randomly selected from with dozens or hundreds of choices which is why you don't see the same thing occur twice.

Anyway, my own modifications to those 10 lines is what makes my implementation of G-Force "dance faster", which I like.

I also got g force platinum,and i agree it is the ultimate visualisation plug-in.
I use g-force in wmp and itunes(itunes also got some pretty good visualizers,it is the only reason for i got it installed)but whitecap is not bad either,if you like equalizers,the platinum edition is awesome,there are not millions of compinations,and it is as outstanding as g-force,not even close,but i like it anyway.I also like album art,it is a substitude for actually holding the CD/ALBUM in your hand.
My music taste also is special(psychedelic trance & psytrance)and g force and that kind of music is a perfect mix,you can make your own little rave-party,you just need to throw g force through hdmi and connect it to your tv-screen,then the fun starts.

Winamp or VLC both work fine

Incidentally for a decent alternative to an Ipod as a portable player look at the tiny SANDISK SANSA clip+ or ZIP -- both REALLY CHEAP and can play FLAC straight out of the box as well as OGG VORBIS and all the other "usual suspects".

What I like about these hardware players too are is the fact you can insert a micro SD card (like those used in smart phones) as an extra storage device giving you up to an extra 32 GB as well so don't worry if the FLAC music takes more space than mp3.

Format the card as FAT32 however or the computer might not recognize it -- then simply drag 'n drop your flac files on to the device -- either the 8GB internal memory or the external micro sd card -- I'm using a 32 GB one --works fine.

Battery life is good too and Windows has no probs recognising the device

i've been using winamp since the dawn of time (1998 i think).

it plays flac files perfectly, but i don't know whether it's the "best" or just "my favourite". :huh:
