best light windows 7 version for an eeepc or old pc

Hi people, I have a low score index of 2,3 with a netbook asus eeepc 1001px, 2Gb Ram and Windows 7 Ultimate sp1.

What do you thing about a thin version of Win7 ? Ice 7 extreme, Win 7 Ultimate LITE SP1, Windows 7 Sp1 Thin, maybe someone of you tried one of these or any other ?

Hello and welcome retrocomputing now frankly how did Ultimate come to be on such a small and under specced machine (like you have) in the first place?

Now I don't want to sound rude but I looked at the specs for this machine on the Asus site and it quoted it came with either Windows Home Premium or Starter and if I know Asus probably the Starter because it is the very basic edition of Windows. In addition to that whoever put the Ultimate on that machine probably used a pirate copy thinking it would be the best one can get but they also installed (according to your specs) a 32bit version on the machine and again that is very suspicious. Having said that the drivers for this machine are all 32bit in any case

An Atom CPU and 2GB RAM is really quite inadequate for that OS. The CPU might just handle it but the RAM needs to be at least 4GB.

Now can you please look at the sticker on the bottom of that machine and let us know what version of 7 is on that sticker.

Pending your reply I think you may have been sold a pup as it seems from the Asus site that this is quite an old machine having DDR2 RAM in it.

Let us know before we go any further

I added the second 2 montsh ago when I decided to use it in the daily use.
In the bottom of the case I see two very old labels, I can't read them.
Maybe it's a pirate copy, well this is another reason to change the OS with a more performing version or with a linux distro.

Have a look at what samuria has suggested and to answer your query I am sure it is a pirate copy of Windows because that machine was only meant to have Windows Home or the Windows Starter version installed.

Now you will have difficulty in installing either of those unless you have access to another machine to download the necessary copies of Windows and make a bootable USB stick because that machine does not have an optical drive - I stand to be corrected of course.

Also the components inside of your machine are not capable of running Ultimate in any way properly.

Now I would be inclined to ask the seller to refund your money and maybe put it towards a better computer. Sorry if this is all bad news but someone has done the wrong thing by you.

I think the Samuria opinion is very good, it sounds very interesting, but my partner (the owner of the netbook) is working in a graphical environment and need software like inkscape, paint.net, sigil, office and so on.

The linux distro, the wine emulator and the large number of opensource software is the nearest solution, I think.

And she loves the little format of eeepc, she put it into her bag and run

Oh well as long as the owner is happy just keep in mind what we have said throughout this thread re the authenticity of the Windows on that machine.

Sad to say but your Asus eeepc 1001px isn't built to have heavy graphical environment programs.
I would install a Linux on it. It's fast, safe and free.
I use Lubuntu (lubuntu | lightweight, fast, easier). Some in the forum like Mint (Main Page - Linux Mint) others Zorin (Zorin OS - Your Computer. Better.).

Well I think this has been pointed out by us in that the machine is really not up to the job for some time now and as Megahertz has just said a Linux OS is the best way to go and my choice would be either Ubuntu or Zorin.
