Best practice for reinstalling Win 7 SP1 from scratch using rollups?

Hey guys,

I have a home-based business with 9 computers, and from time to time I need to reinstall Windows, but as you know, Windows Update tends to crunch for 12 hours before succeeding ( or failing ).

I was wondering what specific standalone packages I could download to bring a Windows 7 SP1 x64 install to a reasonably current condition ( May 2017? ) Is there a list somewhere?

I understand there is a convenience rollup, but I'm not clear if I need every monthly rollup thereafter of what?

I am not interested in upgrading to Windows 10 at this time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Good question. I can't believe no one has written an automatic batch file for this. Here's how it might work:

1) Install win7 sp1 on your own
2) click on "allupdater" batch file
3) take wife and kids away for long weekend
4) come back sunday night just in time, as windows is finishing its final reboot after updating everything

WELL I'm not entirely that lazy

I have been using a cumulative roll-up KB3125574 ( 488 mb ), and KB3185278 ( 61 mb ), but I suspect there is a more-current way to get from SP1 to May 2017.

Anything that minimizes my interaction with Windows Update would save a lot of time.

I just did a new install of Win 7 Pro 64. All the updates are in cab files in the Windows/SoftwareDistibution/Download folder, well most are.

Is there anyway to write these to a DVD and save them for next time? It's almost 1.8Gb of files.

Thanks. I'm just now downloading 62 updates for Office after the Office SP2 install. I have the SP2 for Office 2010 and my Win7 install has the SP1 built in.

I could not install all 262 Win7 updates at once. I had to go back and do 20 at a time.

Just use nlite from nlite.com you can create a install with updates,sp, drivers etc all done in one go easy pease

I did the Windows Update MiniTool today. It did not have near as many updates as what got installed by Windows Update.

It would be nice if MS had a single convenience rollup that reflected SP1 to a current, post-Wanna Cry build, but I have a feeling they'd rather irritate us into installing Windows 10

Depending on which rollups you want to install
The security only rollups you have to do every month plus ie11 updates.
If one just gets the Important rollups that show up in the update system I believe all one needs is the current rollup for now May.
