Best Procedure to Backup WLM

I have been using WLM (used OE6 for 6 yrs before that) for 4 months (about 6000 emails) - with a few likes / many dislikes - and am in the process of trying ThunderBird3 ... but want to backup WLM just in case. I've drilled down to C:\user\myPCname\appdata\local\microsoft\windows live mail\accounts so know where things are saved but do I just copy everything there?

I have over 30,000 .eml's (spread throughout 200+ folders in the 'Storage folders\Import folder\Local folders' directory with 6 email accounts) and have tried once to import to TB3 - but only my folder structure was imported (no .eml's). Now I'm concerned that I should create a WLM backup before trying again.

Welcome to SevenForums, Win7rap.

You're on the right track to be thinking about backing everything up before you make any major changes. I typically image my Windows 7 systems about twice a month since it is so easy with the built-in "image" command.
(Note: DriveImage backup is slower, but allows you to look at and do partial restores - http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm )

To backup your Windows Live Mail, I would suggest you look at something like this: KLS Mail Backup - Freeware Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Firefox backup

Now, is this the place to ask about Thunderbird? (A new post??) Already tried TB Support forum ... told to contact developer of ImprtExportTools. which I did but haven't received response.

To backup your Windows Live Mail, I would suggest you look at something like this: KLS Mail Backup - Freeware Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Firefox backup

I try it but i found a (big) problem
This is my configutation:

Windows 7 Enterprise 6.1 Build 7601 SP1
Windows Live Mail 2011 Build 15.4.3538.0513

These are my steps :

1. With KLS Mail Backup v.1.9.8.0 i backup with profile “Windows Live Mail”
2. I create a new contact like [email protected]
3. I restore the backupd created at the point 1.

but ...i see again [email protected] !! Why the old contacts file isn't replace ?

Someone can check if the contacts backup run fine ?

From the Help File:

Restore

The Restore Wizard will help you to restore an archive. You can restore any archive listed in the Archive library.

The Restore Wizard consists of 2 screens:

Selecting What to Restore

The first screen shows the archive content and allows you to select which files and items you want to restore. A checked item means that the item is selected with all its contents, the empty check box means that the item will not be restored. A gray check box means that some but not all of the item's contents have been selected. If you want to restore the whole archive then make sure the top level item (archive title) is checked. When you finished selecting the items click Next to continue.

The next screen allows the user to specify how to handle existing files:

• Do not replace: existing files are never replaced
• Replace only if the file older: refresh the target files with new files found in the archive, and overwrite old ones
• Always replace: replace all the files

The Info group box displays information about the archive content:

• Number and size of the files selected for restore
• Number and size of the files not selected for restore.

Click Restore to start the restore process.
