Best way to Burn to a DVD?

As my title states above : What is the best way to burn a video/audio file (or an .avi / whatever) to a dvd to be played on a dvd player.
I've been busy burning things this weekend - and so far - for my laptop to burn a dvd(.avi) file over to my CD-R cd(4.7 GB) it takes 7 hrs.... but that is with the highest quality settings possible.
I would really like a faster way to do this. I used the Nero 9 trial version to do that, i used Nero Vision. And my brother has Nero 9 full edition on his computer - so i was wondering which software can do it the best?

I use Easy CD/DA Converter. It's a multipurpose tool that will burn audio, video or ISO. files to disk.
Also you can use it to convert file formats which is very useful.
I've had it a while so I can't remember what it cost but it wasn't expensive and imo it's much better than Nero and certainly much faster.
You might also consider the freeware burners such as IMGBurn and InfraRecorder.

Jesus, I could download, convert and be watching a film in half that. ConvertXtoDVD is what I use for avi's ect.

i like AVI to DVD Video Converter Software VSO ConvertXtoDVD Download now it isn't free but it works flawlessly and is really simple to use.

Why don't you use windows dvd maker? Its on your start menu (built right into win7) and its free and completely integrated with windows 7 . Its guaranteed to be as good as the operating system itself. You can be more sure that it would have maximum compatibility with windows 7. You also get a good simplistic interface. Alternatively, I think you can also use windows live movie maker.

Check out to DVDVideosoft and also AVS4you. Both have complete burning, editing, etc etc... systems

Both have great systems with multi software in a bundle. great price to. Ones free for like 12 programs. The other is really worth it. Like 50 for 20some.. and thats unlimited access all the time forever with every piece of software they have or come up with next.

If you want to burn a video longer than about 1 1/2 hours, you need dvd dual layer disks

ImgBurn. Rock solid and can handle any of your burning needs. And its free. Burning a DVD takes me about 7 minutes.

Convert x to dvd is a very good bit of kit. Very very light and excellent in converting with minimal time.
