I'm having problems with my current Seagate HDD...getting a number of bad cluster reports and repairs in Win 7 reboot check disk. If I get a new drive...what's the best way to transfer over ? I have one clone drive from when I set up the Win 7 Pro isntall...and a number of Windows generated backups under backup/restore.

If I do have bad cluster problem...and I try to clone this drive to a new drive...will not the bad cluster issues screw up the new drive ?

What are your suggestions....?

Thanks, TR

If you decided to get a new HD I'd suggest to do a full clean DVD install of Win7.
I would backup your data to a CD or DVD.

1. Install Win7 from DVD
2. Install MS Security Essential and update definitions
3. Install additional software.
4. Restore saved data files.
5. Validated Win7 online.
6. Update Win7 and all the rest.
7. Then add any additional software as well as your backuyp data.

May take a few hours but worth the effort because you will have done a 100% fresh install.

If not you can make an image of the whole HD and do a restore image on the new HD

It is possible you may end up with a corupt windows install after attempting to clone a known bad HD to a new one..BUT... it's worth a shot. At the worst you'll have to reinstall but at least you see it coming.

I suggest getting a copy of Acronis and cloneing with it. It is the best I have found and use it all the time.

AS stated,, do not clone a a drive that is know to give errors.

Start from scratch and just copy the files over that are needed.
I suggest Unstoppable Copier to transfer your files, if you are going connect the failing drive to the system after loading windows on the new drive.

This is the best way in my opinion. With the errors you are getting... Chances are very good that you will have corrupt data/files.
