Beta (7000) MP3 corruption Patch

If only I would have found out about this before half of my MP3's got decapitated!

oohrah to that!

But luckily I just copied all 6000 of my MP3's to my friend's computer for him to put on his iPod so I can bring my HDD back over there and get my MP3's heads back

This update is now on Windows Update, I installed all the recommended and Important updates available as soon as I reinstalled Windows 7 today. When I went to install this update I was greeted with a "this update is already installed" message!

Yeah I noticed that the other day. Took them long enough, I bet half the noobs who installed have half their MP3s chopped off, not that they'll notice it anyway haha.

but please

someone could tell me if the mp3 corruption appears also if we open an mp3 with winamp under windows 7
or this corruption is made only by media center and media player?

I feel you. I'm going through A-Z checking all of my albums, and replacing the broken ones. Then I have to add the art to those. What a bitch!
Fortunately, not all of my albums were effected. I'd guess around 15-20%.

The day before all my Mp3's got chopped up I had actually copied all of them to my buddie's computer, so I'll just replace em all. Good thing I wasn't relying on my RAID 1 backup for this

It is actually worth noting also that Windows Update picks up this particular patch as an important update, and installs it for you.

someone knows if the mp3 corruption on windows 7 build 7000
appears only opening an mp3 file with mediacenter / mediaplayer

or if the mp3 corruption appears also opening an mp3 file with winamp?

If you have Opened WMP and set up the Library and you don't have the patch you would most likely have some damaged MP3's even if you didn't play any, but if the first thing you did was install Winamp and that's all you use then I would say the answer is no.

because i never use windows media player and i have never opened it from 2 years in all my windows installation

and i use media center only for pics and videos

Actually, and tecnically speaking I think there's no mp3 corruption. My media player 12 refuses to play certain mp3 files tagged externally. I manage to make them play again by deleting the tag information and created again in the mp3 file properties. Then the files play again normally as usual.

Guys dont forget to add the patch to your system to stop Windows 7 beta killing your mp3's

Is this still an issue with 7000.
And is it only when you use the apps media center and media player.

However, this update is now included in Windows Update, so if you install recommended/important updates through Windows Update you should be fine.
