Beware of listening to online radios stations.Malicious Javascript executed during downloading of songs could give you a big headache. MBAM did stopped a few for me.

Online radio stations are just websites in the end, so you should always use safe surfing practices, as with any other site, Bad Javascript has caused a lot of users to remove Java from their systems and avoid sites that still rely on it's use

What do you mean, that some users don't know the difference between Java and JavaScript so they remove Java?

And if they remove Java there's no point anymore to avoid sites that uses it, right? Or maybe I've misunderstood.....

Although Javascript is not part of Java, many people,- due to the similarities in name and the "perceived" bad history that both have in spreading malware - either through direct coding or vulnerabilities, treat them as the same thing - as something to be avoided.

Removing local Java is a little drastic but it's history is not great, so a lot of users are prepared to put up with a little inconvenience for the sake of plugging a " perceived" large security hole

Disabling Javascript in the browser, even for those users who try to avoid Javascript relient sites, does give an extra layer of security when visiting "unknown Sites".
With technologies such as Javascript being more and more depreciated there is always an additional concern - A site still relying on javascript may be reliant on other older technologies and thus be less safe

The main point of my initial post was to emphasize that Radio website should be treated as all other websites - until you are sure of the actual site - with caution

Hi there

Thanks Barman58 - however if you use some decent Apps then the URL is an OPML type of file and you won't get Malvertisments / adware or malware.

Much better (and safer) than using a Browser. You can set this app up for ZILLIONS of world wide radio stations - still FREE and of course your own music files too.

I use an app called SQUEEZEPLAY which works with a free app LOGITECH MEDIA SERVER. I also play to hardware (but if you don't have the Logitech hardware simply download the server and the SQUEEZEPLAY application. It will also stream to mobiles etc and of course it can play and stream your own music files too (including FLAC).

I have a Tune-in account and use that for any worldwide radio via web or phone apps - uk radio is via hardware based DAB sets - mostly I'm only listening to BBC stations which is covered by iPlayer or other bespoke BBC apps or the FM radio on the phone. I have digital radio on the TV feed too so at home I can run that through the HTS if I want to "Play It Loud"

I watch Football on Free to Air, but have no PPV contracts so viewing is limited - Prefer Cardiff for a Quiet drink - a bit more variety than Swansea, (Where my Daughter Lives BTW).

a download meant to stop risks that shows to be a risk itself?

I dunno barman; Ive never had any issues thus far with Java causing bad javascript. Ive been using java for awhile now without any issues. But yes you are right on on the fact that just like while surfing any site; it should be common sense to make sure one is using safe surfing practices and is/are using antivirus, malware scanning programs, etc. to keep one's system in top shape(hopefully).
