beware of water cpu coolers

I have had problems since the purchase of corsair h60, i didnt have a problem as such, i just knew it wasnt working correctly. A cpu cooler of 4k rpm and a noise like a hdd. Well after reading the support pages of corsair website, i took mine back to retailer here in uk, tested and admitted noisy and faulty. Then the truth come out all the lads there use noctua air coolers, thats what ive just installed, they have all used corsair coolers and all faulty.
So after installing my noctua air cooler, im a happy chappie, silence, cpu temp around 25 C currently. Fan speeds of 850 rpm times 2 and 2@ 380 rpm. Altogether got 6 fans going, 2 on the cooler(both noctua@850 rpm) 4 case fans, 2 noctua and 2 corsair. Maybe overkill on the fans, i will monitor.

Interesting. Have been debating getting a water cooler like the ones that have come out for a future build. seems like a good solution to the difficulties with setting up a custom water-cooled system.

I have a Cooler Master V8 in my desktop rig (in "other" section of my specs) and it keeps my FX-6200 at 14C and at around ~30C during gaming. I have seen the Noctura brand air coolers and they are also really good products.

You aren't giving the full details of the story. Many of them are quite noisy, but once you load the software and update the firmware, they run nearly silent. I had an H80i that did this. Those same support forums contain the files and updates to quite down the fans.

I loved the H80i, and the cooling performance was amazing, but it was a little cramped in my case, so I ended up returning it. The only real caveat to these closed loop coolers is making sure you have the space for them internally.

I have had the H50 and the H100 and used them both. The only thing noisy about them are the stock fans. Once I changed the fans out, the pump could not be heard. There are many members here who use them and are quite happy with them. You may have bought a defective one, but that is no reason to indite all of them. I also have a Noctua NH-D14 in another rig and it does quite well too and is very quiet. It is quiet because of the fans it uses. Put those fans on your H80 and you would probably have had a very quiet cooler. Also, I don't use closed loop coolers any more, I have a custom water loop, so I am not defending something I still own. But, your Noctua should do quite well for you.

Thank you both for that input. I will keep that in mind if I get one. I had not read reviews yet so I had not heard the negatives.I have seen many people on here who are happy with them so I was a little surprised, but glad to know more.

The H80i seems to be highly recommended everywhere, including Maximum PC. If my case was a little roomier, I would have definitely kept it.

My H80 is basically silent with the addition of "silent" cooling fans. I have it set on lowest speed. I use my system in my recording studio and it has to be quiet.

My i7 3770 idles in the upper 20's C and I've never seen it over mid to upper 30's C.

I've had the H60 for over a year now and have had no problems at all.
