I am a tech for a small firm in the southern UK just thought I'd let people know as I ahve been testing windows seven (and liking it) I brought in a new machine just for the purpose of "playing / Experimenting" with it everything is a fairly standard machine except the wholesalers convinced me to try the new 7000 range CPU's.

I have tried to install both 32 bit and 64 bit trying the newest available and the older versions both as dual boot and as a stand alone and it just will not install giving a BSOD during the install very similar to a memory one but stating there is a hardware problem, I am trying one last idea i.e. a upgrade before giving up but I shouldn't have to.

But I thought I'd warn people.

From the looks of this guy on another forum, that statement should not be true..

AMD 64 X2 7750 Black
ASRock N61P-S
4GB G.Skill DDR2 1066
CoolerMaster 650watt PSU, (about 2 years old)
2x 74GB Raptor drives in Raid0 with a Silicon Image 3132 raid card
XFX GTS 250
Windows 7, build 7000

He's up & running no problem but has another issue unrelated to the CPU.
I think we need to look at other possibilities here, what was the BSOD message and stop error code please?

Seems we have another hardware issue other than the CPU eh Owl..
Try the vanilla install route and see what you get, could be a dodgy stick of RAM in there.

Nope wasn't Ram was the CPU in a roundabout way

Brand new Board seeing the CPU as what it is but required a BIOS update OK sorted that

Yikes, another perfect example of why AMD should just give up and stick their heads in the mud.

obviously have money to waste

He said he's running a shop. It's not really costing him much or anything to try.

The Owl: What are you installing these from (DVD, HDD, USB)? If it's DVDs, were they both from the same source (i.e. ISOs recorded by you or someone else, both on the same burner)? What I'm getting at is it could be the installation media... I've had all sorts of wierd things happen to windows when installing from defective media (even AFTER they install more-or-less without problems)...

It can't be all 7000 range CPU's as i'm running one on my second PC(7750) with no issues . Ran Vista on it and now Windows 7( all versions thats out). There nothing wrong with AMD CPU's. Also have Phenom II CPU's and all is running without any hick-ups

Incosistent Bios perhaps -- I assume you've tried testing all sorts of different combinations.

BTW will the system BOOT anything -- say even a DOS system disk.

sorry for the slow reply been sorting customers machines out, it will install and run XP without a problem, well still the same with the new board and chip (I noted a patch installed to the CPU) and I still cannot load anything newer than the 7000 build (which is the closest to Vista) I have most of the builds right up to and including the 7100 versions both 32 and 64 bit but 7000 is it stupid part is the machine will load and run no problems XP which is fine but I bought this machine in purely to test bed the windows 7 OS, I havent tried Orbital Sharks idea and am reluctant to do so thing is the board and CPU is a standard package / bundle that I get from the wholesaler and would be the base line machine I offer customers so I am worrying where this will lead
