It sounds like it might be going into sleep mode  i take it you're using the native 'Shutdown' button.

You could try looking at the power plan settings & checking the 'Choose what the power buttons do'. It's just a thought.

check in the bios i have a gigabyte board and i feel like i remember being able to set it in there

you can put it into suspend mode by just pressing it and to shut down it takes 4 seconds holding the button. says its for ms-dos but who knows maybe she works a little the same with win7

It would depend on what BIOS your machine is using. There's normally an option for 'Power Management' but without seeing it i can't be 100% certain.

The only thing ringing any bells is the Instant-Off option but if you've tried all of them then i'm at a loss.

Sorry, hopfully some1 else here might be able to help.

from what i see, it's set the way it should be to disable suspend when pushing the power button.

the issue is that it's going into suspend, which if you choose shut down, shouldn't be dropping into suspend, s1 or s3 (s1 is the mode it's using, as windows chooses that by default, s3 is where it shuts down everything but ram power to keep the data in ram active)

the issue doesn't appear to be with the motherboard, so much as it is with windows itself.

and while i can point out where the issue is, roughly, i'm sorry to say i can't offer a solution :(

When in the power plan you have, go into "change advanced power settings" I had a setting in there overriding a setting outside of the "advanced" options. You will want to go into that interface to make sure everything is set the way you want it. I had a similar problem and this is how it was solved. I think it's a bug. I am running the same build. Good luck! I really hope this helps.

I'm having a similar type of problem with my gigabyte motherboad and the win 7 rc. If I set the mobo to suspend to ram, it shuts down, but the board keeps doing some kind of wierd reset. windows is down, but the mobo shuts off, then comes back on - checks all the devices, then shuts back off. It does this endlessly -- and it's hard to get the system to come back up correctly.

very wierd. I finally got some decent sleep behavior by changing to Powe on standby (the default).

got the retail version coming in a few days, hope it's fixed. -- or maybe the mobo is bad in this respect. don't know

Definitely a crazy problem indeed.

Well I have the same motherboard (Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4 with nVidia chipset) and CPU (Quad 6600) as the OP tho I'm on build 7600 64bit and no issues with shutting down. I disabled all sleep and hibernation modes on my desktop immediately as they've always been shotty in the past. I have not updated the bios on my motherboard ever... since there was no functional reason to do it.

You could try the same build and that CPU is 64bit so why not?

Your problem may not be hardware related.
