didn't like it -- In any case I like my OWN wallpapers rather than some random stuff probably geared to a whole different generation.

I instinctively also don't trust any of these non standard "3rd party toolbars" or search facilities -- usually SPAM results in one form or another.

I'll NEVER EVER buy from Amazon again either -- nothing wrong with theirprice structure or speed of delivery -- but after buying a few items I'm INCESSANTLY sent offers about further products which I neither need nor want and there doesn't seem to be any way of switching this stuff off other than setting up a new email address only for spam / junk mail.

Probably never happen but when you buy something you should be given the option whether or not you are interested in receiving further offers etc. A few sites do this such as Eurostar (train company running services through the Channel Tunnel between London, Brussels and Paris).

You can choose to keep your own wallpaper.

It's MS supplied - does that make it 3rd party?

Kind of bothered me it being in the way of the view of my desktop anyways nice for those that like it.

I'm giving it a go in one of my VM's - you can pin it to the top middle of your screen. Between that and the clicking+autohide it is actually rather unobtrusive.

Although it's necessity is rather questionable. All it really does is eliminate 'one click' of the opening of your browser.

Maybe later versions will make it more 'feature rich'.

There definately is a difference, although it seems like google offers slightly more intelligent searches (finds more of what you were searching for), if you were to compare the two. I both like and use Bing because it seems more clean and has a nice image with it, and I don't surf the web too much other than by using my favorites.

I use Bing desktop on a couple of my computers, but I notice there is a few seconds delay with it enabled vs the normal desktop (to be expected, and hardly burdensome). I also notice that using it is just as easy as using Start>Internet, or clicking the icon on the desktop/taskbar. So I hide the Bing bar at the top and just enjoy the different picture every day (not to mention I've got into the habit of clicking the little IE logo instead; I hardly ever think of the Bing bar).

Perhaps someone will think something is up when one day they see me turn on my computer to the image of flowers o.0

Bing (formerly Live Search, Windows Live Search, and MSN Search) is a web search engine (advertised as a "decision engine") from Microsoft.

As in this thread, the name change is constant. Do note that the search engine is advertised as a decision engine, so it will be different. Just what that means is not known by me.

I kep on hiding the Bing Desktop Update, but every so often it shows up again as an optional update

I gave it a try but didn't like it. The Bing search bar was hardly unobtrusive.

If you click on the Bing taskbar button the searchbar hides itself there until you want to use it again.

If you right click on the IE taskbar you can also uncheck the Bing toolbar item in the list of things like menu bar, Favorite bar, command bar, etc. there.

Just tried this out only with the wallpaper that has been in use to still end up seeing the Bing search box right in the middle of the first display here.

I like Bing Desktop. It's bloody handy to use for a quick search!

Also, it takes Bing's homepage picture of the day, which is usually not the entire window frame and make it your whole Desktop. I kind of got bored with my pictures, since I've gone through pretty much all of them. This makes it refreshing!

And personally, I choose Bing over google since I'm concerned with how google is EASILY able to track a user through its services. And I'm concerned with their little to no track record of user privacy. Heck, even the CEO of Mozilla publically said that he urges all firefox users to use Bing over google citing privacy concerns...

I think people are finally realizing that Google-litis doesn't work in their best interests in any way! Adbots and other things are apparent!

regardless of the browser used here I always set Bing as the default search engine. The only problem with the Bing desktop however is seen when you are running with more then one monitor and have a separate wallpaper for each one. Here one image would be stretched across both until changing wallpapers again.

Too bad you couldn't see just the search box onscreen without the backgrounds due to this. The two images attached here will show how it looks across both displays as well as having the original UltraMon theme applied with the Bing search box present.

If I can avoid anything Google - I will these days.



As for the Bing bar, one annoying aspect is that when placed up the top of the screen, it affects fullscreen apps - like games for example. If you mouse up towards the Bar area - it appears.

But with refinement, little things like that could be alleviated.

Better support for dual screens would be nice to. Even the option to move it a non-primary screen would be handy.

I wouldn't mind a move button seen on the search box. The problem as you see with the first image there is how the background on LCD #2 when using a dual screen setup is scrambled eggs! There's obviously no search box only option to address this type of problem either for those running multiple displays since this is a live Bing page web feed.

It works about the same as you used to see when people applied any particular web page as wallpaper but with constantly changing photos for the background being randomly displayed each day. Unfortunately they didn't think ahead far enough when only taking into account those with laptops or single monitor systems. Otherwise it can be quite decorative rather then being stuck with a boring desktop?
