I have an Asus U47A laptop that recently took a little fall (~3ft.) while it was running. It immediately let out a pretty loud and alarming sound that I have never heard before. I am not completely lost when it comes to computers, but I fear it was the hard drive.
When I go to boot, I get a black screen saying "Reboot and Select proper Boot Device" When I restart and go into BIOS, under the "Boot" tab I have "Windows Boot Manager PO: Hitachi HTS547575A9E384" which is of course the hdd that was in it.
I was not given a Win7 disk with the computer and I cannot for the life of me find any information anywhere else on the internet now after a few days of searching and trying every little thing. If I remove the hard drive and place it in an enclosure, Windows 7 (on another machine of course) wants to format it immediately. Do I just need to realize the drive is done and get another? I'd love a SSD and almost made the jump a few months ago and now I'm kinda irritated I didn't, but if I do go buy another drive, after the price of another Windows copy I may as well buy another laptop and then I have a second in pretty nice condition (minus a hard drive of course) The pertinent facts the best I can remember the are: (and please feel free to ask any questions, I'm the one here trying to get help so I'm really just trying to get any ideas of what I should do at this point)
Windows 7 64bit
Asus U47A
Intel i7
8gb ram
Thank You in advance for your help
